Largest USPSA Championship in United States
More than 500 competitors and match staff will participate in the second annual United States Practical Shooting Association “Classic Nationals” from April 30 through May 4, 2014.. The event is produced and hosted by the 1911 Society and PASA Park, and will again be the largest practical shooting competition held anywhere in the United States.
The Classic Nationals consists of two separate USPSA-sanctioned National Championship matches. The USPSA National Single Stack Championship is sponsored by Springfield Armory and will run April 30-May 3. The USPSA National Revolver Championship is sponsored by Smith & Wesson and will be held May 4th. The combined Classic Nationals Aggregate is sponsored by Ruger Firearms. Spectators are welcome.
“The Classic Nationals is unique,” says USPSA President Phil Strader. “It offers a one-stop opportunity for fans of America’s two most classic handgun designs, the Government Model 1911 pistol, and the traditional double-action revolver. Shooters can compete and win recognition in either or both of the two matches.”
The 1911 Society was founded in 1994 by nationally-renowned pistolsmith Richard Heinie, along with the late Russell Cluver, USPSA’s Illinois Section Coordinator. The first 1911 Single Stack Classic, a stand-alone match with fewer than 100 shooters, was held in Milan, IL. The event was moved to PASA Park at Barry, IL, in 1997, and became an official USPSA National Championship ten years later.
“This is our 20th Anniversary year,” says Heinie. “It’s amazing. I knew the classic Model 1911 would remain enduringly popular, but I never dreamed a match based on a century-old design would grow to eclipse all other competitions with modern-style pistols. Last year’s addition of the Revolver championship to create the combined Classic Nationals is just the icing on the cake. Proves American shooters love tradition.”
