Los Angeles, Calif. — Lightning almost struck at Augusta National Golf Club on Sunday as rising PGA Tour star and G/FORE glove enthusiast Jonas Blixt (whose surname means “lightning bolt” in his native Sweden) tied for second place at the 2014 Masters Tournament.
The 29-year-old Swede was in the hunt all week as he wore a Clover green glove from G/FORE’s fashionable line of premium golf gloves, shoes and accessories. The similarity in colour between Blixt’s G/FORE glove and the iconic green jacket awarded to Masters Tournament champions attracted loads of attention from journalists, commentators and social media. The brand has even announced a promotion for this week that offers a complimentary green glove with any purchase from G/FORE’s newly released Gallivanter golf shoe collection.
Blixt, who has now played in three major championships, is looking to be the first Swedish man to win a major. It was an impressive Masters debut, as Blixt was the only player on the leaderboard to be under par in all four rounds.
“It was a great day,” he said in a post-tournament interview. “When you shoot under par at Augusta National on a Sunday, you should be pretty happy. … I learned a lot today. I can’t wait to come back.”
“Jonas’ incredible Masters run shows that our gloves are tournament-tested at the highest level and perform under the toughest real-world playing conditions,” G/FORE founder-designer Mossimo Giannulli said after Sunday’s highest-ever finish for an active G/FORE-sponsored golfer. “It’s a great boost for our young company and we’re very proud of Jonas.”
In only his 19th PGA Tour start, the rising talent and Florida State University standout won the 2012 Frys.com Open. Blixt has since taken the top spot at the 2013 Greenbrier Classic, finished fourth at the 2013 PGA Championship, tied for 26th at the 2013 British Open and with this second-place finish at The Masters, has already secured his place at the 2015 Masters Tournament.
Since debuting its colourful glove line at the 2011 PGA Merchandise Show, G/FORE has become the accessories brand of choice for a wide range of stylish golfers — from professionals like Tom Watson, Robert Rock, Ricky Barnes, Alex Cejka, Tim Petrovic, Rick Smith and Tommy Armour III to celebrities such as Wayne Gretzky, Bill Murray and Kings of Leon’s Nathan Followill, to weekend warriors and clubhouse regulars alike.
Crafted from grade-AA Cabretta leather, G/FORE gloves meet USGA specifications. G/FORE gloves and accessories are now worn in competition by pros on the PGA, Champions, European, Japan and LPGA Tours.
