Pellucid and Edgehill have added Transaction Analytics to their data mining capabilities. By organizing Point of Sale (POS) transaction data; this new application shows what hours are the busiest in terms of both number of transactions and revenue volume.
Transaction Analytics can be used for a variety of purposes – staffing, hours of operation and pricing. The data can be sorted by Category; such as Greens Fees, Merchandise, Range or F&B and can be broken down by month or day of week. The application will also allow tracking of individual SKUs or a series of SKUs.
“We’ve been able to identify the impact of price changes made in 2013 in our full year analytics for our clients”, said Stuart Lindsay of Edgehill. For our courses that operate year around, we are already seeing the effects of 2014 pricing. We have also seen some transaction dispersion that was rather surprising and have started to advise our clients accordingly.
“This really adds to our ability to evaluate golf course performance”, said Jim Koppenhaver of Pellucid. “We are also able to drill down deeper combining the use of our Weather Analytics as well”, he added.
Transaction Analytics should also help track the effectiveness of “Dynamic Pricing”. As our clients express interest in Dynamic Pricing, we felt we better give them some tools to determine whether these new pricing concepts actually work – both in terms of changing transaction dispersion and “net of weather” revenue results.
We have already completed a number of analyses using over 1,000,000 transactions and data from two major POS platforms. “Because of our experience dissecting other data from a variety of POS platforms, we should be able to expand our ability to organize data from other golf POS platforms as demand warrants”, Lindsay said.
