Premium bedding topper continues to support performances of the world’s best athletes
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 6, 2014) – airweave, inc., a leading manufacturer of premium bedding toppers and pillows and a proud sponsor of the U.S. Olympic Committee, announces that it has formalized its relationship with Bubba Watson, two-time winner of the Masters in 2012 and 2014. Watson has relied on the brand to help him get a high-quality, consistent sleep since 2012. The airweave partnership is Watson’s first endorsement deal since winning the 2014 Masters tournament in April.
Watson, who joins a roster of world-class athletes who trust the brand for an exceptional sleep experience, was first introduced to airweave at the Thailand Golf Championship in 2012, by airweave CEO and President Motokuni Takaoka, a participant of its Pro-Am tournament. Takaoka presented airweave toppers to Watson and his team as a token of their new friendship. When Watson joined the HSBC tournament in Shanghai in 2013, and checked in to the official hotel, he knew instantly when he touched the mattress pad that it was airweave on the bed. He contacted Takaoka, who was there as a sponsor, and their friendship and beginning of their partnership was born.
“As a professional golfer, I am on the road all the time and it can be difficult to get quality sleep in a different bed each week,” said Watson. “airweave has helped me consistently get a good night’s sleep, and makes the routine of being on the road a lot easier.”
Watson – who is currently ranked No. 4 in the Official World Golf Ranking and who earned his second “green jacket” in April following six top 10 finishes to start his 2014 campaign – will be featured in airweave global marketing and advertising initiatives. The company has also pledged to support The Bubba Watson Foundation, Inc. and its mission of enhancing the everyday lives of people in need.
“It is an honor to formalize our relationship with Bubba and to have one of the most dynamic golfers in the world attest to the quality of our product,” said Takaoka. “Recovery through sleep is a critical factor in maintaining peak performance and airweave provides the peace of mind and body that a good night’s sleep brings.”
In 2004, Takaoka took over a struggling manufacturing operation that produced plastic injection molding machines used to make fishing nets. Takaoka believed the resin used in the nets could be adapted to make a totally-new type of bedding product. He perfected a unique product line before launching airweave in 2007. His company has quickly become the category leader in Japan and sales have soared from next to nothing to US$100M in seven years. airweave officially launched in the United States early this year through its website airweave.com.
airweave premium toppers feature an innovative design in which air comprises 90 percent of the product’s core material to provide users with the sensation of “sleeping on air.” The highly resilient 3D structure enables users to roll over with ease – maintaining deeper slumber and providing consistent sleep with just the right support and heat/moisture dissipation. In addition to Watson, airweave is the trusted partner of top amateur and professional athletes around the globe, including LPGA Tour star Paula Creamer, 2014 U.S. National Champion Figure Skater Gracie Gold, Olympic Champion Ice Dancers Meryl Davis and Charlie White, and nearly 1,000 competing athletes at the Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
