Top instructor of juniors-and coach to PGA Tour star Dustin Johnson-to oversee instruction at summer golf camp in Maine
Sunday River, Maine (May 8, 2014) – Allen Terrell, who has made his name as a leading golf instructor to juniors, high school, and college players-as well as coach to PGA Tour pro Dustin Johnson since his college days-is the new Director of Coaching at the New England Golf Camp.
The camp will be held from June 29 to July 26 at the beautiful Sunday River Resort in Sunday River, Maine, and Terrell-who remains Director of Coaching at the Dustin Johnson Golf Schools in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina-will be on site the entire time.
“We are extremely excited to have Allen and the Dustin Johnson Golf Schools direct our golf programs this summer and for many more in the future,” said Bob Siff, the owner/director of the New England Golf Camp. “We believe the combination of Allen’s experience with junior golfers and the tremendous facilities at Sunday River Golf Club and Resort make this the best golf camp around for young golfers of all levels. Whether you’re a young golfer thinking about playing at the college level and beyond or you just picked up the game we have a great program for you.”
Terrell added, “Having a golf camp in New England is a perfect fit for us. The week-long sessions afford us a greater opportunity to have an impact on the junior golfer in his or her development.”
Besides lasting a day or two longer than most summer golf programs, the New England Golf Camp puts an emphasis on playing, not just practicing.
“The Sunday River Golf Club has a terrific practice facility, with a driving range, practice bunkers, a huge practice putting green, and more,” said Siff. “We limit enrollment to smaller groups which will ensure that each camper gets individual professional instruction, along with the latest technology like Trackman. And if you look at most other golf camps, they play a round of golf maybe once or twice a week. At New England, in addition to daily instruction, our kids will play four or five rounds a week at some of the best courses in Maine, including Sunday River. We feel that daily play and repetition is imperative in the learning process for kids trying to bring their game to the next level.”
Said Terrell: “Bob and I want this to be a place for junior golfers that have developed a true passion for the game. For those interested in playing college golf and maybe beyond our camp is the perfect place to join us in the summer to improve his or her game and get noticed by college coaches and others. After playing and practicing during the day, our kids will learn how to prepare for college golf, how to set goals, and what to do to promote themselves and get the attention of college coaches.”
Open to juniors from 9 to 17, male and female, New England Golf Camp will take advantage of Sunday River, one of the leading winter-summer resorts in the Northeast. “We’ll do fun things, too,” said Siff, “we want the kids to focus on golf while mixing in a good dose of fun. Whether it’s moose watching or movie watching, campfires, ping-pong, or going to the local amusement park, we’ll be sure our kids have a complete camp experience. The emphasis is on golf, but we want them to have fun, too.”
Campers will stay in a special lodge on the Sunday River property, three or four kids to a room, with a private bath, housekeeping, meals, adult supervision, and a full program of golf and non-golf activities.
“New England Golf Camp is for juniors who are thinking seriously about their game,” said Terrell. “The facilities at Sunday River are some of the best in the country, which will help us help the kids not only play better, but know exactly what they need to do to get into college, play college golf, and continue to get better and enjoy the game.”
Weeklong sessions cost $1975, and include all accommodations, meals, professional instruction and 4-5 golf rounds per week. For more information on New England Golf Camp, check out its website, www.newenglandgolfcamp.com.
