CARLSBAD, Calif. (May 12, 2014) – Highlighted by a 142-yard eagle two on the final hole, Nippon Shaft earned the victory – as well as the runner-up finish – May 4 at the Championship at Laguna National in Singapore.

With irons equipped with the Nippon Shaft N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 130 S flex steel shafts, the 39-year- old Chilean champion used a pitching wedge to can his final shot to win by a stroke over his 43-year-old Swedish competitor, who used the N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 120 X flex steel shafts in his irons. It was his second European Tour victory.

The final shot gave the champion a remarkable 28 on the back nine and a 10-under 62 for his final round. He finished at 22-under par for the tournament. He also made a birdie 2 on the par 3 17th. He started the day four shots back, in seventh place.

Finishing tied for eighth place was the 40-year-old Frenchman, who shot 15-under for the tournament using Nippon Shaft N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 120 X flex steel shafts in his irons.

“Nippon Shaft is extremely proud to have the winner, runner-up and another top-10 finisher utilize our steel shafts in their irons,” said Hiro Fukuda, sales and marketing for the Japanese shaft maker. “The MODUS3 shafts were designed specifically for touring pros and low-handicap amateurs to help them get the most out of their games.”

Nippon Shaft experts have spent years traveling with the PGA TOUR getting player feedback and input in order to develop shafts that fit the needs of high-level golfers as well as amateurs.

Nippon Shaft has a rich history when it comes to designing and producing lightweight steel shafts. In 1999, the company introduced the 95-gram N.S. PRO 950GH shaft, which became one of the most popular shafts in the world.

In addition to its success with average golfers, the 950GH was – and remains – one of the most popular shafts on the LPGA Tour, where it has been the shaft of choices for hundreds of winners on the world’s most prestigious women’s pro tour.
