(HARRIS, Mich.) – The Island Resort Championship at Sweetgrass Golf Club (sweetgrassgolfclub.com) invites junior golfers to a free demonstration with LPGA Symetra Tour players on Tuesday, June 24.
Open to ages 10-14, the event will be held at the Sweetgrass Golf Club driving range at 4 p.m. EST. Participants will receive an Island Resort Championship t-shirt and tickets to the tournament, June 27-29.
Parents or guardians must register their child in advance by calling the Sweetgrass golf shop at 906.723.2251.
“The demonstration provides a unique opportunity for young golfers to learn about the game first-hand from some of the rising stars in professional golf,” says Tony Mancilla, co-chair of the Island Resort Championship. “It’s a classic win-win because the kids get the chance to meet the pros in person and the Symetra Tour players enjoy interacting with their young fans.”
The Symetra Tour “Road to the LPGA” returns to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for the fourth straight year as 144 professional women golfers will vie for a $125,000 purse and a chance to win their 2015 LPGA Tour card.
This year’s Island Resort Championship will also serve as the second leg of the Symetra Tour’s newly created Potawatomi Cup, which will feature an incentive-based points system awarding players bonuses based on performance at four Potawatomi Nation casino-sponsored tournaments.
Three-day tournament passes cost $10 for grounds access and include entry into daily prize drawings. American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Pinecrest Medical Care Facility and several area schools are among the groups selling tickets, keeping 100 percent of the profits. A complete list of participating organizations can be found at sweetgrassgolfclub.com.
Tickets can also be purchased through The Island Ticket Office (877-ISL-SHOW). Kids 17 and under enter free with a paying adult.
