Volvik staff players Craig Stadler and Larry Nelson both earned Top 3 finishes this weekend at the Big Cedar Lodge Legends of Golf on the Champions Tour.
It was a historic week on the Champions Tour as the event format featured a par-3 course for the first time in a PGA TOUR-sanctioned event.
Stadler finished T3 in the Champions division at -14 under par and earned $102,500 playing a Vista iV 4-piece golf ball. Nelson played a Yellow Vista iV and finished 2nd in the Legends Division.
Stadler was paired with Kirk Triplett and Nelson was partnered with Bruce Fleisher in the team format. Stadler and Triplett shot a final round 2-under par 52. They were the only group without a bogey for the week. Sunday’s final round was a nine-hole better ball format at the par-3 Top of the Rock course. Nelson and Fleisher, leaders after Friday’s opening round, finished three shots back at 8-under.
“This was a big event for the Champions Tour and for golf in general,” said Volvik USA National Director of Sales and Marketing Jon Claffey. “The Par 3 course and team event format that drew the biggest legends of the game is a great way to show that golf can be enjoyed in different formats and on shorter golf courses to help the sport gain participation. We were ecstatic that the Volvik players played so well in this historic event.”
The next Champions Tour event is the Encompass Championship that takes place June 20th. Stadler is the defending champion of the Encompass Championship. Nelson will also be playing the event.
