CHICAGO, IL. (June 4, 2014) – Freedom Golf Association (FGA), an organization founded in 2012 with a primary goal of advancing the delivery of grass roots golf instruction to those with special needs, will assist the Encompass Championship, a PGA TOUR Champions Tour event, with the Visionworks Junior Golf Clinic on Tuesday, June 17 at North Shore Country Club in Glenview, IL.
“FGA’s involvement with the Encompass Championship is another important step for our association. We attended last year’s clinic with several special needs children and had a marvelous time. To be assisting with this wonderful event held for all Chicago area kids is a proud moment for FGA” says E.Q. Sylvester, Chairman and Founder of FGA. “Freedom Golf Association is honored to work with the Encompass Championship and Visionworks, the junior clinic sponsor, in making the event inclusive. We’re thankful to the gracious sponsors for helping to bring this Champions Tour event to Chicago…it’s a marvelous opportunity for FGA and greater Chicago” continued Sylvester.
The clinic will start at 2:00PM with kids being welcomed to watch the tour professionals practice on the range. The clinic will kick off at 3:00PM in a designated clinic zone, where kids will have an interactive experience with SNAG (Start New At Golf) equipment. There will be four stations representing the four core elements of the game of golf, and the kids will rotate through the various stations. FGA Adaptive Golf Coaches, SNAG personnel and numerous volunteers will be on-hand to assist with the clinic. “We are very pleased the SNAG has accepted the invitation to set up the interactive experience for the kids. It should be a fun afternoon of learning golf and enjoying some sweet treats courtesy of Culver’s restaurant” notes Andy Mears, Director of Golf Operations for FGA.
Freedom Golf Association welcomes anyone with a physical or cognitive disability. Golf is anyone’s game. FGA’s Mission is to bring a sense of joy and freedom to those in the special needs community through their inclusion in the game of golf.
Freedom Golf Association was founded in July 2012 by Edmund Q. Sylvester. He is a Director of the Western Golf Association and a golf enthusiast. Sylvester became a triple amputee in 2011. Soon after leaving the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, he attempted to hit golf balls at a local range. Without assistance, his attempt was not successful and it became the first step towards forming FGA.
