Carlsbad, Calif. (June 18, 2014) – Fresh off the signing of NCAA individual champion Cameron Wilson, Callaway Golf Company (NYSE: ELY) has also announced they have added a pair of former amateur stars in Talor Gooch and Joey Garber to their Tour staff roster.
Gooch, 22, is probably best known for sinking a clutch 30-footer in a dramatic semifinal playoff that put Oklahoma State in the NCAA Championship Finals against Alabama. The Midwest City, Okla., native finished his career as a Cowboy on a hot streak, recording six top-10s in his final seven events, including a T3 at the Big 12 Championship and T2 at the NCAA Columbia (Mo.) Regional Championship. He averaged 71.70 strokes in 37 rounds during his senior season.
Garber, a 22-year-old from Petoskey, Mich., finished up his senior year at the University of Georgia where he was team captain. A 2014 Ben Hogan Award Semifinalist, Garber ended the season ranked No. 5 in GOLFWEEK’s college rankings, but held the top spot in April after posting five top-5 finishes in his first seven starts. In 26 rounds, he averaged 70.46 strokes, which broke the Bulldog’s single-season record (recently held by Callaway Staffer Chris Kirk, who averaged 70.90 strokes during the ’05-’06 season).
