The Phil Kosin Illinois Women’s Open celebrates 20-years of excellence

Romeoville, IL – For two decades an international field of top women golfers have gathered to compete in the The Phil Kosin Illinois Women’s Open (IWO).

The premier women’s golf event in Illinois celebrates its 20th anniversary when it returns to the newly renovated Mistwood Golf Club July 28-30. The Ray Hearn designed course in Romeoville has hosted the tournament since 1999.

“We are very excited to once again be hosting these top female players here at Mistwood,” said Dan Phillips, director of golf at the Mistwood Golf Club. “The new renovations last year were well received and after a full year of maturity the course this year will be playing even better.”

BMO Harris returns as a sponsor along with the Greater Illinois Title Company for the four-day event, which starts with a pro-am on July 27. The field will then compete over 54-holes for a purse of $25,000.

Mistwood owner Jim McWethy closed the course on a couple of occasions the past few years to facilitate Ray Hearn’s award-winning renovation work, including “Best U.S. Renovation You Can Play” by GOLF Magazine.

The major changes the women are now experiencing includes improvements on each of Mistwood’s 18-holes, most notably, at the par-5 third hole where the green was relocated and a double fairway added to create an exciting risk-reward opportunity. In addition 20 new-stacked sod-wall Scottish bunkers were added, and some other bunkers and fescue grass areas were repositioned.

“We are very proud of the reputation we have developed for the IWO,” Phillips said. “With the continued improvements being made to Mistwood and the tradition of excellence we have developed, the IWO has become one of the premier golf tournaments in the Chicago area.”

The women will also be impressed with the new Mistwood Performance Center and practice facility, with its Scottish themed architecture, leading swing technology, and large practice areas. The new facility will also serve as the gathering area for the competitors during the event.
