Louisiana Superintendent Solves Unfair Pin Locations

June 26, 2014

Jeff Brocato of the Baton Rouge (LA) Country Club solved a problem with unfair pin placements by joining a long list of superintendents who are using the ezLocator system to manage pin placements on the greens.

“I really like the fact I can now control the pin locations from my office,” he said, pointing out how using ezLocator helped take some of the guesswork and chance of human error off the table. Brocato pointed out the course’s greens were on the small side and had a lot of movement and slopes, making it sometimes difficult for the hole cutter to decide where to place the hole as it was easy to get in trouble with wherever he put it.

Switching from their front-back-middle system, with red-white-blue flags and trying to keep them as close to 6-6-6 as possible, to ezLocator has made a world of difference. “ezLocator helped us eliminate unfair positions and I now have more confidence that they will be fair,” Brocato said. He also pointed out that another advantage of using ezLocator was that new positions were found that members had never seen previously. “Some of the members are downloading the ezLocator app for their smart phones, too,” Brocato noted.

Brocato found out about ezLocator through word of mouth from other superintendents who were using it and also heard about it from his club members who had seen it at other clubs they had visited.

Using ezLocator has improved communications with the pro shop staff as tournament-quality pin sheets detailing the exact locations of the pins were now provided to members and guests.

Most importantly, Brocato believes the addition of ezLocator has helped the image of the club and made it a more pleasant experience. “It’s a classy way of presenting the hole locations,” he said. “Our members love it!”
