Volvik, the #1 Color Golf Ball on Tour, today announced their partnership with Women’s League Golf, a “grow the game” initiative through structured social league formats.
Volvik will serve as the presenting sponsor and official golf ball of Women’s League Golf, which launches its inaugural year this year. Women’s League Golf is operated by the same company that launched and runs PGA Junior League Golf, a highly successful junior league play program that saw nearly 9,000 participants on over 740 teams across North America in 2013.
“With Women’s League Golf, we saw Volvik as the perfect fit with their high performance color golf balls,” said John Biltgen, Managing Director of Women’s League Golf. “Our idea was to have each team have a color that represented their team and to match the uniforms to the exact color of the Volvik golf ball they are playing. This represents our firm belief that golf participation can be grown at a faster rate when the individual golfer is a part of a team that supports the fun aspects of the game.”
Volvik is known as a tour quality golf ball specialist with a focus on color, innovation and ultra high-performance for players of all skill levels. Each team in a league will play a different color Volvik golf ball and will wear uniforms designed to match the golf ball color.
“At Volvik, we have made a concerted effort to help grow women’s golf by sponsoring grow the game initiatives like Women’s League Golf, by sponsoring some of the best female golfers in the world and the LPGA’s developmental tour,” said Don Shin, President of Volvik USA. ” Women’s League Golf is the most forward thinking league format we have seen to make golf more accessible and fun for women golfers. We are excited to be a big part of such an amazing initiative and we look forward to the team members of WLG playing our colorful, ultra-high performance golf balls that will match their team uniforms.”
For the 2014 season, Women’s League Golf will be limited to ClubCorp select facilities only. Currently, facilities in 8 markets have committed to participate. Those markets include Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Hilton Head, Jacksonville, Los Angeles, Palm Springs and Tampa.
“Much of my professional golf career has revolved around ‘grow the game’ programs,” said Cathy Harbin, Vice President- Golf Revenue at ClubCorp. “I am happy to be associated with the introduction of Women’s League Golf and for the potential of such a wonderful initiative.”
The format for Women’s League Golf play is an innovative way to make golf more fun and less intimidating for female golfers. Two person teams within a team will play a 9 hole scramble format. Matches are broken into three hole segments called “FLAGS”. One of the best aspects of this program is that no handicaps are required, insuring that women of all skill levels will be comfortable playing.
A league consists of four to six teams with four to six women per team. Five intra-club matches per team will be played during the “regular seasons,” in both Spring and Fall Women’s League Golf seasons.
Golfers can begin registering at www.womensleaguegolf.com or at participating clubs which can assist with the registration process.
