Norcross, Ga. (June 30, 2014) – For millions, golf serves as a sanctuary from life’s daily demands and pressures. However, the impact and influence of golf on two amateurs transcends the golf course. Today, Mizuno announced two more members of the 2014 “Team JPX” roster of inspirational, “game-improvement” amateur players, including the first female team member this year. Both will be featured in the popular Mizuno “Play Famously” campaign.
Amy Newman and Joe Bracamonte, from Concord, North Carolina and Fresno, California respectively, were selected to join the roster of Team JPX members in 2014. As members of the team, both will be outfitted from head to toe with Mizuno gear and apparel, including the JPX EZ irons, and will begin their personal game-improvement journeys in preparation for competition at the second annual JPX Invitational in Atlanta in September.
“The ‘Play Famously’ campaign continues to celebrate golf’s ability to help individuals transform inside and out. This is no different for the latest two ‘Team JPX’ members,” said Dick Lyons, Senior VP/GM – Product Divisions, Mizuno USA. “We are excited to bring a female player to the Team JPX roster, especially one who embodies the passion and drive that Amy does.”
As a former college softball player, Newman was used to the rigors of being a student athlete. She became accustom to her balanced school and softball schedule, but that all changed when she suffered a career-ending knee injury. Amy graduated, then threw herself into her new career. Working 60 hours a week at the office and another 20 or so at home, Newman discovered golf fueled her competitive edge and provided balance in her life she so desperately needed.
“I am thankful golf has given me an outlet other than work to release my competitive energy,” said Newman. “Discovering the game four years ago, I never thought I would be afforded an opportunity like the one Mizuno has given me with Play Famously. I’m extremely thankful and happy golf has given me the balance I was looking for.”
For middle school Vice Principal, Joe Bracamonte, raising four children put a serious strain on his personal health. Hitting an all-time high of 284 pounds, Bracamonte’s life was spiraling out of control and he was in dire need of change. Making specific weight loss goals, Bracamonte rewarded himself through golf. Whether it was a bucket of balls at the range or an early tee time, golf served as the ultimate motivational tool. At age 41, Bracamonte golfs three days a week and gets his exercise walking the course, which has helped him lose more than 60 pounds.
“Without the game of golf I would have not been able to change my habits. I would have continued down an unhealthy path that limited my ability to enjoy what means the most to me, my family,” said Bracamonte. “I am so grateful I found the game of golf to serve as a motivator to get healthy and enjoy myself in the process. I’m excited to be a part of ‘Team JPX’ and thankful to Mizuno for giving me the opportunity to tell my story.”
The last two members of “Team JPX” will be selected through an online contest at www.playfamously.com. Golfers are encouraged to try the new JPX EZ irons at a participating retailer, provide their feedback and submit a short essay, photo and/or video. The submissions should demonstrate their passion for golf and a specific challenge that golf has helped, or is helping them overcome in their lives. The next two coveted spots on “Team JPX” will be announced Friday, July 25, 2014.
At the center of the “Play Famously” campaign is the newest addition to the JPX line of game-improvement irons, the JPX EZ. The line establishes an entirely new standard for forgiveness with a proven sweet spot 83 percent bigger than TaylorMade Rocketbladez and more than 50 percent larger than Ping G25 and Callaway X-Hot. JPX EZ utilizes an ultra-thin, Hot Metal face that delivers an enhanced ‘trampoline effect’ for the extra distance all players desire.
