Cary, NC (June 30, 2014) – The last few years have been tough for the golf industry. But in Cary, North Carolina – a dynamic suburb of Raleigh – MacGregor Downs Country Club is thriving and preparing for a bright future.
MacGregor Downs Country Club opened in 1967 and immediately earned recognition as one of the leading private clubs in the state. Today, under new owners, Concert Golf Partners, MacGregor Downs has maintained its stature and has undergone some important changes that have it well positioned for success.
Concert Golf Partners (CGP), a nationally known and well-funded owner-operator of golf properties, purchased the club from its members in 2014. With this acquisition the club retired all debt, eliminated member assessments permanently, and simultaneously, gained an experienced, professional management team, with access to capital for both immediate and long-term improvements. The Club has had strong membership growth since CGP’s acquisition and response has been positive to an early round of capital improvements.
“We are thrilled to see the wonderful reaction to our new improvements from MacGregor members who in the past had to wait years for capital investments at their club. Now, with no debt and access to funding, members have spoken up about what they want at MacGregor, and our multi-million dollar improvement program is underway,” said Concert Golf chairman Peter Nanula.
The club-enhancement program includes the removal of trees and upgrades to the on-course irrigation system, as well as investing in improved turf, resurfacing tennis courts, adding decks for outdoor dining, and enhancing activities and amenities on Lake MacGregor. More course and club improvements are planned for the near future.
As part of a new outreach to the Cary Community, MacGregor Downs has introduced a corporate membership opportunity that gives full club privileges to each corporate designee and his/her family. With initiation beginning at $10,000, it includes unlimited access to golf course and practice areas; club access for the family; use of tennis, watersports, and fitness facilities; and invitations to a year-long social calendar, such as wine, beer and gourmet book clubs. The Corporate membership is also designed to allow local business people to use the club for events, both professional and personal.
Russ Curtis, general manager of MacGregor, added, “we have a number of prominent Cary companies represented at the Club, and our new corporate membership offering is based on how these companies are using the club – they love the lifestyle for their families, but they also enjoy hosting small meetings and annual company events.”
With its 50th year on the horizon, MacGregor Downs is uniquely suited for families and for functions for residents of Cary and beyond. Individuals and corporations interested in membership as well as hosting events-from meetings to weddings-should contact Curtis at 919-467-0146 or rcurtis@macgregordowns.org.
