(HARRIS, Mich.) – Island Resort & Casino – home to the award-winning Sweetgrass Golf Club and a variety of other entertainment and leisure amenities – has named Tony Mancilla as General Manager of casino-resort operations.
Most recently a tribal attorney for the Hannahville Indian Community, which owns and operates the resort, Mancilla is also co-chair for the Island Resort Championship — a Symetra Tour “Road to the LPGA” professional golf tournament played at Sweetgrass Golf Club annually.
In his new position, Mancilla is tasked with achieving budget goals, managing operations and overseeing the staff of one of the most popular destinations in Michigan.
“Working closely with Tony for many years, I’ve seen firsthand how his sharp mind, amicable personality and relentless work ethic directly contributed to the growth of our resort and success of the Island Resort Championship,” says Kenneth Meshigaud, tribal chairperson. “I expect the Hannahville Indian Community to be gratified with their selection of Tony Mancilla for years to come.”
A graduate of the University of New Mexico School of Law, Mancilla was instrumental in having the world-class golf course debut at the resort in 2008. Known for thinking big, he also helped bring the Upper Peninsula its first professional golf tournament in six years with the inaugural Island Resort Championship in 2011.
“The Island Resort Championship has evolved to become everything we hoped it would be and more, likewise with the casino resort,” says Mancilla. “The future is bright for the Hannahville Indian Community and area residents and stakeholkders, and I welcome the challenges and opportunities that come with such an important position.”
The 24/7 gaming floor at the Island Resort & Casino features more than 1,200 slot machines and a variety of table games including poker, blackjack, craps and roulette. Five restaurants, private dining/banquet rooms, recently updated accommodations and weekly live entertainment draw visitors annually from the United States and Canada.
