Aldila’s RIP Phenom shaft drives Champions Tour winner to 2nd consecutive major title
POWAY, Calif. – Playing Aldila’s Rogue shaft in his driver and Tour Blue shaft in his 3 wood, the winner of the John Deere Classic picked up his first win on the PGA Tour and earned a spot at the Open Championship this week at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in England. He finished the tournament tied for eighth in driving accuracy with an 80.36 percent. He was 18th in driving distance with a 303-yard average. The win was the second consecutive victory with the Rogue shaft in a driver on the PGA Tour.
With 31 Rogue shafts and a combined total of 70 Tour Blue and Tour Green shafts in play, Aldila (www.aldila.com) dominated the shafts manufacturer counts at the John Deere Classic. “The Hottest Shafts In Golf” had nine more driver shafts in play, 29 more wood shafts and 13 more hybrid shafts in play than the next leading shaft manufacturer, according to the Darrell Survey.
At the John Deere Classic, Aldila had the top two driver shaft brand models in play (Rogue and Tour Green 65) and the top four wood shaft brand models in play (Rogue, Tour Blue 85, Tour Blue 75 and Tour Green 65). Aldila’s Rogue has been the most popular driver shaft brand model on the PGA Tour for 14 consecutive weeks. Aldila also had the top two driver brand shaft models in play at the Utah Championship on the Web.com Tour (Tour Blue 65 and Rogue).
The Rogue shaft is built on Aldila’s ultra-successful new “Tour” platform using the same tapered tooling and Nex Gen Micro-Laminate Technology™ that provide the exceptional performance of the #1 shaft model on Tour – Aldila’s Tour Green and Tour Blue.
“Aldila’s Nex Generation Micro Laminate Technology is comprised of ultra-thin layers of premium, low resin aerospace grade materials,” said John Oldenburg, Aldila’s Vice President of Engineering and Product Development. “This design evolution eliminates inconsistent shaft performance caused by material variability. Redesigned tooling also raises the shaft balance point, making this the perfect upgrade for today’s modern club head designs.”
By incorporating this new material, Aldila is able to make the shaft stiffer and lower torque without adding weight. At the same time, the placement of the material in top third of the shaft (grip end) allows the shaft manufacturer to slightly counterbalance the shaft to work well with today’s heavier driver heads and the longer length of modern drivers.
Aldila has released limited edition “tour authentic” Rogue shafts made with the same exotic materials as the Tour models in recognition of the Rogue’s one-year anniversary on Tour. The limited edition shafts will be made in the USA at Aldila’s Research & Development facility in Poway, California and will be serialized with laser customization available to personalize each shaft. The limited edition Rogue shafts are available for consumers now through select distributors with a suggested retail price of $799.
On the Champions Tour, the winner of the U.S. Senior Open Championship picked up his second consecutive major championship of the season with the help of Aldila’s RIP Phenom shaft in his driver. He won on the final hole of a 3-hole aggregate playoff and finished the tournament with a driving accuracy percentage of 82.14 percent and a scoring average of 68.92.
Earlier this season he won the Senior PGA Championship. With the win Sunday, he captured his ninth Top 10 finish of the season and moved into first place in the Schwab Cup Standings. He has placed in the Top 15 in 10 of 11 tournaments on the Champions Tour this season.
The RIP Phenom incorporates Aldila’s Tour proven RIP Technology® (Reverse Interlaminar Placement) with unique composite construction to create a new and innovative shaft flex profile for maximum distance and control – Hyperbolic Flex Technology™. RIP Technology repositions the materials and patterns to optimize the performance characteristics of the shaft.
The Phenom’s Hyperbolic Flex Technology provides a stiff tip section for optimal launch and spin control, with a very firm butt section for an incredibly stable feel, while the center section of the shaft is softer to provide outstanding kick through impact to maximize ball speed.
The winner of the Utah Championship played Aldila’s VS Proto™ shaft in his hybrid club. He carded an opening round 62 and went wire-to-wire to pick up his second career victory on the Web.com Tour. He shot a 21-under-par, which was one stroke short of the tournament’s 72-hole record. With the win, he jumped from 28th to seventh place on the tour’s money list.
