Cary, NC (July 15, 2014) – Former LPGA Tour player Joellyn Crooks has joined MacGregor Downs Country Club as its new Director of Instruction, working with Head Golf Professional Joe Alden. Crooks will assume the reins of MacGregor Downs’ player development and popular junior golf programs, which the past two years grew from 15 students to just shy of 100.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to come to MacGregor Downs Country Club and excited to share my knowledge and experiences to help grow the game for our members and their families,” said Crooks, who served the past six years as Head Golf Professional at Crooked Creek Golf Club in Fuquay-Varina, N.C.
Born and raised in Appleton, Wisc. Crooks (then Joellyn Erdmann) played golf at the University of New Mexico, where she graduated in 1997 with a degree in human resource management.
Before starting her professional tour career, Crooks was the four-time Wisconsin Women’s Player of the Year (1994-97), a semifinalist at the 1996 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship and two-time Western Athletic Conference individual champion (1995-96).
She played the Symetra and LPGA Tours from 1999 to 2005, winning twice on the Symetra Tour. Crooks also competed in the 2002 U.S. Women’s Open Championship. She has nine wins as a professional.
Crooks is married with two children, ages 5 years and 7 months. Her husband Tim is a PGA of America professional and the Associate Head Golf Coach (men’s and women’s teams) at Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C. She has been a volunteer as an assistant coach for the Campbell women’s team, which this season advanced to the NCAA Division I Championships.
Coming to MacGregor Downs, Crooks replaces Steve Kisner, who announced his retirement after a 37-year career as a PGA professional.
“Adding Joellyn to our staff is a great addition to the future of the club,” said Russ Curtis, CCM, general manager of MacGregor Downs. “At the same time, we want to thank Steve for the strong work he has done to reinvigorate our golf programs.”
Located in the growing community of Cary, North Carolina, MacGregor Downs Country Club is thriving under its new ownership, Concert Golf Partners (CGP), which purchased MacGregor Downs this year. The Club has had strong membership growth since CGP’s acquisition and response has been positive to an early round of capital improvements.
