DALLAS – FootGolf, an increasingly popular combination of golf and soccer played with a regulation soccer ball on a shortened golf course, will be available at Mansfield National Golf Club starting today. The club has been sanctioned as an official FootGolf course by the American FootGolf League (AFGL), the governing body for the sport in the United States.
The Mansfield National course will be available for FootGolf every day after 6 p.m for an introductory price of $5 per player during the month of July. Soccer balls will also be available for rent. More information can be found at www.mansfield-national.com.
“We couldn’t be more excited to bring FootGolf to our course,” said Garrett Peek, general manager of Mansfield National Golf Club. “It will attract a new demographic of consumers to our facility and gives us another fun way to serve our guests. FootGolf is popular with young people, families and soccer players and we’re thrilled to bring it to the Mansfield community.”
FootGolf is played much like golf, with the goal being to get the soccer ball into the 21-inch hole with as few kicks as possible. The rules largely correspond to the rules of golf and the game is played at the pace of golf, with each participant in a group taking a separate turn for each shot.
The game can be played by anyone regardless of age or ability and at any level of competitiveness. It can be played as a family activity or among avid soccer players.
FootGolf has swept the nation in recent months and is now available at almost 200 courses in 37 states. More than 125 new courses have begun offering FootGolf in 2014 alone and more than 500 will offer the sport by the end of the year.
Mansfield National Golf Club is operated by Dallas-based Eagle Golf. The company also offers FootGolf at its Lake Park Golf Club in Lewisville.
The American FootGolf League (AFGL), founded in 2011, is recognized by the Federation for International FootGolf as the exclusive governing body for the sport in the United States. As the sport continues to grow, the AFGL will sanction national tours, state and regional tournaments. More information on FootGolf can be found at www.FootGolf.net.
In operation for more than 28 years, Eagle Golf provides a full suite of golf course management services to 31 golf facilities across the country. More information can be found at www.eaglegolf.com.
