CARLSBAD, Calif. (July 30, 2014) – Patrick Miller, whose tenure in the golf industry includes experience at some of the country’s most prestigious resorts, has been named Director of Golf at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
Responsible for all golf operations on-property, Miller assumes control of the newly renovated 36 holes that recently hosted the California State Amateur Championship – the Champions Course, redesigned in 2011, and the Legends Course, unveiled last November.
“It is both an honor and a great opportunity to be part of a classic resort with such a rich golf history and tradition,” Miller said. “I am fortunate to be familiar with the responsibility involved and what it takes to maintain the integrity and reputation for great golf at a place like Omni La Costa.”
Miller, 40, served the past 10 years as director of golf at the legendary Omni Tucson National Golf Resort – which opened two years before La Costa did in 1965. It is also a 36-hole facility with a rich history of elite competition. While at Tucson National, Miller worked on the PGA Tour’s Chrysler Classic and recently assisted with a major renovation of the golf shop, locker rooms and member lounge.
Certified as a member of the PGA of America since 1999 and a graduate of the PGA Golf Professional Training Program, Miller began his career in his hometown of Kalispell, Montana, first as a course ranger and starter, and eventually advancing to assistant professional and golf instructor. He also was one of the leading competitors in the region, winning numerous events, including the Montana Open.
In 2000 Miller was hired by Arizona’s acclaimed Desert Mountain Golf Club in Scottsdale, where he was an assistant professional for four years. He joined Omni Tucson National in 2004, initially as head golf professional, but within four months was promoted to director of golf.
“It is exciting to bring someone with Patrick’s talents to Omni La Costa Resort,” said David Kirken, general manager. “His knowledge and insight into all aspects of operations will have a positive impact on golf for all of our resort guests and club members.”
