HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – Palmetto Hall Plantation Club, a Heritage Golf Group property on Hilton Head Island, SC, is pleased to announce that the Robert Cupp Course will be re-opening following a two month closure to install new Celebration Bermudagrass.
The facility closed its course May, 2014 to replace the grass on all the tees, fairways and roughs with new Celebration Bermudagrass. The Club chose this particular grass after much research on the superior characteristics of Celebration Bermudagrass.
“Celebration Bermudagrass is a durable turf that is tolerant to both shade and heat. The new turf is a great addition to our impeccable year-round conditioning and the course looks beautiful.” stated Brian Murray, Superintendant at Palmetto Hall Plantation Club. “The re-grassing project will provide an improved golfing experience for all who play on the Robert Cupp Course at Palmetto Hall Plantation Club.”
During the Greens Project, Palmetto Hall Plantation Club took great care to preserve the original, creative course layout designed by Robert Cupp, Golf World’s Golf Architect of the Year in 1992. Cupp used a computer to design the golf course layout therefore the course features many sharp angles, straight lines, and geometrically shaped hazards. Additional improvements included upgrades to the irrigation system, parking lot, several acres of tree removal and primary clubhouse landscaping.
In celebration of the grand re-opening, Palmetto Hall Plantation Club will introduce a new social calendar featuring interactive activities for the kids, as well as updated social events and dining menus for the enjoyment of our Members and Guests. Additionally, the Club recently updated its Arthur Hills Course in September 2013.
“This is a great opportunity to enhance the overall aesthetics and playing conditions of the Robert Cupp Course at Palmetto Hall Plantation Club. It’s like a brand new course now,” said Dan Moscar, General Manager of Palmetto Hall Plantation Club. “If you regularly play the course or haven’t played in a while we welcome you to stop by and check out the great improvements and I look forward to seeing you on the course.”
