Stafford, VA – The Middle Atlantic PGA hosted a charity event raising $80,000 for cancer research on August 4th & 5th at Belle Haven Country Club in Alexandria, Virginia. The Holden Cup, benefitting the Prevent Cancer Foundation, has raised over $1 million since its inaugural event in 1999 and was started by Charlie Holden, a member at Belle Haven Country Club, whose daughter Sherry was diagnosed with breast cancer. Yong Joo, from Broad Run Golf Practice Facility, shot an impressive 6-under par in the final round to win the 15th Holden Cup. This win marks Joo’s sixth top-5 finish of the season. Joo, who was even par heading into the final round, made nine birdies on the day. Blake Brookman from Cedar Point CC, John Scott Rattan from Bethesda CC, and Dirk Schultz, PGA from Beaver Creek CC, all tied for second place at 1-under par. Bryan Sullivan, PGA from Kilmarlic GC in the Outer Banks of NC, finished in first place in the Senior Division after defeating John Francisco, PGA from Piney Branch Golf & Country Club on the first playoff hole. Daniel Thore, PGA and Rick Schuller, PGA of Swaders Sports Park, finished tied for third at 1-under par.
