Blythewood, S.C. (August 12, 2014) – One of the rising stars on the LPGA Tour, 20-year old Mi Hyang Lee, has a new home course after becoming a club member at Cobblestone Park Golf Club, located just northeast of Columbia, S.C.
Originally from South Korea, Lee and her father moved to Columbia to be closer to her coach, Puggy Blackmon, the venerable director of golf for the University of South Carolina. In addition to his responsibilities at the university, Blackmon coaches world-class players like Lee, former British Open champion David Duval, and PGA Tour veteran Kyle Thompson, a USC alum.
Cobblestone Park is the home course and practice facility to the USC Gamecocks Men’s and Women’s Golf Teams. After working on her game at Cobblestone Park with Blackmon, Lee became enamored with the club’s expansive practice facilities and 27-holes of golf that ramble across dramatic hilltops and valleys.
Lee, who began playing golf at the age of 3, burst on the professional golf scene in 2012 when she earned the Rookie of the Year Award on The Symetra Tour, the LPGA’s development tour. Lee’s success there earned her full membership on the LPGA Tour in 2013. Earlier this year she won the New Zealand Women’s Open, carding a course record 63 in the final round to beat the World No. 2 and defending champion Lydia Ko.
“We’re delighted to see Mi Hyang become a part of the Cobblestone Park family,” said the club’s general manager Tom Graber. “It is a real joy to watch her fluid golf swing on the practice tee and on-course. I think her fellow club members will be able to pick up a few pointers watching her.”
As a club member, Lee also has access to Cobblestone Park’s new 28,000 sq. ft. clubhouse, a state-of-the-art Fitness Center, resort-style pool, lighted tennis courts and full-size gymnasium.
