Howey in the Hills, Fla.-Bishops Gate Golf Academy (BGGA) announced the addition of Jonathan Yarwood to the staff as the Director of Performance. Yarwood will be overseeing the training program and the development of the Bishops Gate Golf Academy coaching team. CEO of Bishops Gate Golf Academy, Lee Anne Gilchrist, stated, “I am really looking forward to having Jonathan on the BGGA team. His many years of coaching top-tier junior golfers will bring a new depth of experience to our program. It is our alignment of values and purpose, however, which excites me the most. Changing the academy model and ethos to create more independent and college ready players is what we are all about.”
Yarwood has spent his career traveling the world coaching elite players while still teaching golfers of all standards and abilities. He is one of the most successful coaches in terms of the breadth of his achievements which include:
• One US Open Champion
• Two US Amateur Champions
• Two US Girls Champions
• Three AJGA Players of the Year
• Four US Number One Juniors
• A winner on several major professional Tours
• 123 junior national and international wins
Starting his teaching career as a PGA assistant before crossing the Atlantic in 1996 to join the David Leadbetter group, Yarwood spent nine years with Mr. Leadbetter at the prestigious IMG/David Leadbetter Golf Academies in Florida working alongside his mentor and other specialist coaches in the industry.
Yarwood says he enjoys teaching players of every ability and has been recognized internationally for the quality of his instruction. He has been voted a ‘Top 20 Teacher under 40’ by Golf Digest Magazine in 2006-2008 and also the ‘Top Teacher in State Rankings” for Florida for the past 10 years. The PGA also honored him in 2011 with PGA Master Professional status which made Yarwood the youngest coach to hold that distinction. Other elite professionals with PGA Master Professional status include Pete Cowen, David Leadbetter and John Jacobs.
Additionally, Yarwood has built and developed coaching academies in the U.K., U.S. and Europe and has been an active contributor to the golf media in both print and broadcast for the past 20 years.
