ATLANTIS, Fla. – This weekend celebrates the 2nd annual Team Golf Championship with the South Florida PGA. The event will be hosted at Atlantis Country Club, starting at 9:00 AM on Saturday, August 16th. Twenty teams and roughly 120 junior golfers from across South Florida highlight the festivities. Along with the juniors, team coaches are local PGA and LPGA Professionals that will be on-site assisting their teams.

The 2nd season of Team Golf in South Florida began earlier this summer on June 11th at the Palm Beach Par 3. Since then, over 25 tournaments have been held with roughly 400 junior golfers participating in the program. In addition to participating in up to seven (7) events per region, each team conducted at least one practice a week. This provides players a chance to work on fundamentals with their fellow team members and friends. Host PGA and LPGA Professionals are the team coaches and help prepare the guidelines for each practice session. Players get a balance of instruction, knowledge of rules, and learn about etiquette.

This Section-wide Team Golf Championship brings together players, coaches, and families that have participated in the program all summer. Teams will be represented by the five (5) different regions – Northern Palm Beach, Southern Palm Beach, Naples/Fort Myers, Broward County, and Vero Beach. Each team is comprised of six players that form three (3) two-person teams. These two-person teams compete in their respective age divisions (6-10, 11-12, 13-14), and play from age and gender specific yardages. Teams can be coed and the format is a two-person Scramble playing 9-holes of stroke play. The Team Golf Championship is a great opportunity for players to showcase their skills and enjoy a fun day on the links.

About Team Golf

Team Golf is the “Little League” approach to golf in a structured setting that provides for a more popular, less stressful approach to competition & tournament play. The program is designed for kids ages 6-14, and offers an introduction through 9-hole team play. Similar to other youth sports, teams have weekly practices. Golf instruction is provided by local PGA and LPGA Professionals serving as team coaches at public and private golf facilities throughout South Florida. Participants in Team Golf are part of an exciting approach to learning and having FUN on the golf course, all while growing the game of golf.
