App will allow participants to check scores, receive tournament messages and map course directions on their smart phone
(MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.) – Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday has launched an app for the Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship that will enhance the tournament experience for players using an iOS or Android smart phone.
The app, which is available in Apple and Google’s app stores, allows players to receive messages from the tournament, access scores, both current and historical, and check the daily schedule, among many other features.
“In terms of our ability to communicate with players, this app is the most significant enhancement since we built a website,” tournament director Jeff Monday said. “The app provides players with one-touch access to their golf course lineup, directions to courses and even the nightly menu at the World’s Largest 19th Hole.”
Here is a look at the app’s featured categories and what they provide players:
My Tournament: Players can access their golf course lineup, tee times, 2014 tournament scores and handicap. A player ID is necessary to access to this portion of the app, the only section that isn’t open to the public.
Scores: Access individual and flight scores for every World Am dating back to 2001.
Event Schedule: Provides a daily schedule of what’s happening at the World Am from the golf course to the 19th Hole.
News: Tournament organizers can post messages directly to the app and if players permit push notifications, they will be alerted immediately. This will allow the tournament to do everything from communicate messages that might impact tournament play to reminding players who is appearing at the 19th Hole.
Places: This will likely be the favorite feature for players as it offers a listing of host courses, complete with the ability to sync the course address with the GPS on their phone. In the future it will do the same for Myrtle Beach area restaurants, hotels and attractions, allowing participants to easily research the area
19th Hole: If the places feature isn’t the most popular, the 19th Hole entry will be. It includes a list of exhibitors, nightly menus, an entertainment schedule, bar selections, a floor plan and more.
The app will also have information on sponsors, prizes, the tournament gift bag and more.
The 31st annual World Am, a 72-hole, net stroke play event, is being played August 25-29 on more than 60 of Myrtle Beach’s best golf courses. The event will culminate on Friday August 29 with the World Championship at Barefoot Resort’s Dye Club.
