U.S. Open venue No. 17 on Golf Magazine list of Top 100 You Can Play
Palo Alto, Calif. (Sept. 2, 2014) – Honors for the golf architecture firm of Robert Trent Jones II are rolling in for five courses included on the biennial rankings of “Top 100 Courses You Can Play” by GOLF Magazine.
Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Wash. – host of the 2015 U.S. Open Championship – is ranked No. 17 among the Top 100 public golf courses in the nation, which appear in the September issue of GOLF Magazine. Chambers Bay, which opened in 2007 and hosted the 2010 U.S. Amateur Championship, also is rated as the No. 1 course in Washington, in the state-by-state breakdown.
The Prince at Princeville, Kauai (a 1991 RTJ II design renovated and reopened in 2012) is No. 24, followed by The Links at Spanish Bay (1987) in Pebble Beach, Calif., at No. 44, CordeValle (1999) in San Martin, Calif., at No. 58, and Sunday River Golf Club (2005) in Newry, Maine, at No. 92. Sunday River also earned the No. 1 ranking in Maine in the state-by-state breakdown.
RTJ II is most honored in the golfing paradise of Hawaii, where five courses are among the first dozen on the state’s Top 20 list: The Prince at Princeville, Kauai (No. 2); Princeville Makai, Kauai (No. 5); Wailea Gold, Maui (No. 6); Poipu Bay Resort, Kauai (No. 9); and Wailea Emerald, Maui (No. 12).
Among the other numerous state-by-state honors for RTJ II on the new GOLF Magazine list are Osprey Meadows (No. 3 in Idaho), Three Crowns (No. 4 in Wyoming), Eagleglen Golf Course (No. 3 in Alaska); Poppy Hills (No. 13 in California); Max A. Mandel (No. 15 in Texas) and the Raven at Sandestin (No. 16 in Florida).
These are the latest honors for RTJ II courses, which have appeared on all of the most respected “best of the best” rankings for the past five decades.
