Keswick Hall, Kiawah Island and The Sea Pines Resort properties welcome new additions
(RICHMOND, Va.) – The Riverstone Group – owner and operator of premier hotels and resort destinations in the U.S. – announces the opening of three distinct golf projects at its Keswick Hall, The Sea Pines Resort and Kiawah Island properties.
All were worked on by either Pete Dye or Tom Fazio, two of the titans of modern golf course architecture.
Full Cry at Keswick Golf Club
Keswick Hall and Golf Club – the acclaimed 600-acre luxury resort set in Virginia’s scenic Hunt Country near Charlottesville – is home to the newly opened Dye masterpiece Full Cry. The course is the signature amenity to its historic 48-room inn and club. Dye will perform the ribbon cutting ceremony during a media reception on Oct. 10.
When stepping on the first tee Full Cry’s natural beauty and clarity of the challenge that lies ahead are crystal clear. Dye has done a masterful job of combining “old world” architectural charm and modern technology. With the exception of one hole, the greens have open fronts and are approachable either through the air or on the ground.
“There is no question the Hunt Country of Virginia is the perfect terrain for an exceptional golf course and that’s exactly what we have with Full Cry,” says Dye. “The layout is as good as any I’ve ever done.”
Osprey Point at Kiawah Island Resort
The Fazio-designed gem has completed renovations and will reopen Oct. 1. Fazio oversaw conversion of the course’s greens, tees and fairways to Paspalum, the same grass receiving rave reviews from PGA TOUR players during the 2012 PGA Championship played on the resort’s Ocean Course.
Long favored by guests for its natural scenic beauty and playability, additional improvements to Osprey Point include returning the greens to their original sizes and contours, rebuilding all bunkers, adding nine new forward tees, laser-leveling of tee boxes and improving drainage.
“The changes Mr. Fazio made greatly enhance both the aesthetics and course conditioning,” says Brian Gerard, Director of Golf. “Osprey Point is a ‘must play’ when visiting Kiawah Island.”
Heron Point by Pete Dye at The Sea Pines Resort
The ideal complement to famed Harbour Golf Town Links, Heron Point underwent a series of enhancements over the summer. It reopens for play Sept. 22. The critically-lauded 18 is resplendent with knotted hardwoods, lagoons and salt marshes teeming with wildlife.
With the objective of making the course more player friendly, Dye’s team softened the green surrounds and contours, enlarged several greens, changed the putting surface grass to Tif-Eagle Bermuda, and added ornamental landscape beds throughout the layout.
“Our members and guests are going to love the changes made to Heron Point,” says Cary Corbitt, Vice President of Sports and Operations. “Both Harbour Town and Heron Point are Pete Dye classics and give us a spectacular ‘one-two punch’ of exceptional golf.”
