PUERTO RICO RESIDENT TO BE RECOGNIZED AT ANNUAL AWARDS NIGHT ON NOVEMBER 11
ATLANTIS, Fla. – Aaron West of Puerto Rico has been named the 2014 SFPGA Horton Smith Award recipient. This award is designed to recognize the individual golf professional for their outstanding and continuing contributions to developing and improving educations opportunities for the PGA golf professional.
A PGA member since 2000, Aaron is currently the PGA Director of Instruction at Acura Golf Experience. An active member within the South Florida Section, Aaron has served as the Island Chapter President from 2005-2010 and 2013-2014. He has held other leadership positions in the Island Chapter including: Education Chairperson, Secretary and Vice President.
“I believe that education is really important for all PGA members,” said West. “With so many qualified PGA Professionals, attending education events is a way for a PGA Professional to separate themselves and learn something new about the industry.”
West has organized and administered countless education opportunities for the PGA Professionals in the Island Chapter including: PGA/PRGA Junior Camps, PGA kids zone at the Puerto Rican Open and in addition to securing numerous speakers for meetings and education seminars. In 2014, West coordinated the inaugural Island Chapter Merchandise Show. This mass merchandise show included eight educational seminars and also featured the latest golf apparel, equipment and technology.
“I am proud of the work we do here in the Island Chapter,” said West. “The education opportunities are limited due to our size and remote location, however we host many golf events with education attached for our professionals. I am constantly looking for new and innovative ways to improve the quality of the PGA Professional’s education in the Island Chapter.”
The 2010 Horton Smith Award Recipient, West has been recognized with many awards for his outstanding efforts as a PGA Professional. He is a seven time Island Chapter Teacher of the Year, seven time Island Chapter Player of the Year and five time Island Chapter Horton Smith award winner.
Aaron West, along with nine other South Florida PGA Annual Award winners, will be recognized at the SFPGA Awards Night on November 11 at the Country Club at Mirasol.
