CHICAGO, October 6, 2014 – Wilson Golf is proud to announce the upcoming release of the all-new D200™ irons to be displayed at the 2015 PGA Merchandise Show and available for purchase beginning January 15, 2015.
The D200 irons blend research conducted by Wilson Golf’s innovation team with consumer feedback provided in amateur testing. The result is Wilson Staff’s biggest advancement in distance-related technology yet, called Speed Sole Technology™.
“We started by recognizing the Distance player’s needs revolve around distance and forgiveness,” stated Michael Vrska, Global Director of Innovation. “We looked at distance technologies we developed in other products, particularly the C100 irons, and how we could improve them. This led to prototypes with a reduced face and sole thickness transition that resulted in very high CT values, faster ball speeds and greater distance. It evolved into the Speed Sole concept.”
Speed Sole Technology allows for a thinner face-to-sole transition resulting in driver-like CT’s and faster ball speeds. The cutout allows the face to flex more, especially lower where most impacts occur (Diagram A).
The D200 irons also continue to push the limits of Wilson Staff’s The Right Light™ technology platform. Even lighter than its predecessor, the D100, weight is saved from the face and sole and gets redistributed to heel and toe weight pods (Diagram B). These pods visually demonstrate the weight’s positioning on the perimeter, which provides a larger sweet spot and thus more forgiveness.
“Weight redistribution is all about delivering balanced, solid-feeling clubs that are easier to swing faster with the same effort,” said Vrska. “By shifting the right amount of weight to the toe and heel pods, the Distance player obtains better feel and a more forgiving sweet spot.”
Complementing the new D200 irons are the D200 driver, fairway woods and hybrids that all feature The Right Light technology, making it easier for distance players to swing faster with the same effort.
