Cape Coral resident to be recognized at annual awards night on November 11
ATLANTIS, Fla. – Jeff Nixon, Head PGA Golf Professional at Stoneybrook Golf Club of Estero, has been named the 2014 PGA Player Development Award recipient for the South Florida PGA. This award is designed to recognize individual PGA members for their extraordinary and exemplary contributions and achievements in the area of Player Development. This award considers the Professional’s growth of the game leadership, commitment at the Section and National levels, plus the impact made at his/her own facility.
A PGA Member since 2005, Nixon is very involved with growth of the game initiative at Stoneybrook Golf Club of Estero. In 2012, Nixon coordinated a Family Golf Day at his facility encouraging juniors, women and new golfers to participate , during the event over 300 free lessons were given given by PGA Professionals. Yearly, Nixon hosts a SFPGA Play Golf America Day at his facility, which attracts over 300 participants to enjoy golf clinics, free instruction and golf equipment demos. He currently mentors 3 PGA Apprentices that offer Play Golf America Programs such as Get Golf Ready, Give Golf a Try and free ladies clinics. Through Jeff and his team’s efforts, numerous opportunities are available to new golfers, juniors and women in Southwest Florida.
Nixon is very involved with the South Florida PGA on both the chapter and section levels. He served as the Section’s Growth of the Game Committee Chairperson from 2006-2013, and has been involved on the Southwest Chapter’s board since 2006 as the GolfPass Chapter Chairperson, Education Chairperson and is currently the Junior Golf Chairperson.
In addition to his PGA involvement, Nixon has been the Southwest Junior Golf President since 2011. He is a proud alumni of the organization and hopes to inspire other PGA Professionals to give back to organizations that helped them get started in the game of golf. Nixon has been involved with SFPGA Team Golf since its inception in 2013 and coached three teams this year. He annually volunteers to speak to students in the Florida Gulf Coast University’s PGA Golf Management University Program about Play Golf America and the benefits of spreading the game of golf. He also mentors four students from the program in areas such as teaching, governance and knowledge of the PGA of America.

No stranger to this impressive honor, Nixon has been the recipient of the PGA Player Development Award (formerly PGA Presidnet’s Plaque) seven out of the last eight years. In 2005, he was named to the PGA President’s Council and in 2006 he was awarded the Southwest Chapter Teacher of the Year honor. In 2011, he was named the Southwest Chapter Horton Smith Award recipient and in 2012 he was named the Merchandiser of the Year for a Public Facility.
Jeff Nixon, along with the nine (9) other South Florida PGA Annual Award winners, will be recognized at the SFPGA Awards Night Monday, November.
