October 15, 2014 – Callaway Footwear announces the launch of the All-New Del Mar Series of casual spikeless shoes and the Apex Tour high performance shoe for men, as well as two new models of our popular Sky Series for women.
Building on the popularity of two generations of Del Mar products, the new Del Mar Series comprises two models, the Del Mar Zephyr and the Del Mar Sport. Both feature premium leather uppers and lightweight EVA outsoles combined with rubber traction elements featuring our Xfer™ power wall for optimum stability and traction.
“The new Del Mar Series is a tip of the cap to our California roots,” says Callaway Footwear President, Brad Handelman. “The two new Del Mar Series shoes provide the perfect balance of performance with comfortable, casual style that delivers on the course and in the clubhouse.”
“We took our aggregate learning on traction from the development of our innovative X Cage Vibe and incorporated it into a totally new casual spikeless outsole,” explains Callaway Footwear VP of Product, Jake Pinger. “It combines lightweight EVA with an extremely durable rubber compound in just the right places to dramatically reduce the slippage that can occur on the lateral sides of your shoes on your backswing and finish.”
The Del Mar Zephyr is nearly 20% lighter than our 2014 Del Mar, has a more elongated European casual shoe profile, and features our ultra-comfortable Ortholite 3D insole. The Del Mar Sport has a similar outsole design to the Zephyr, has a comfortable molded Ortholite insole, and is 12% lighter than its 2014 predecessor. In addition, the Sport has a wider profile and is available in wide sizes, so it is ideal for golfers who prefer a more generous fit.
“A zephyr is refreshing sea breeze and the Del Mar Zephyr looks the part,” noted Callaway Footwear VP of Sales Gary Gramkow. “The Sport looks great, too, and both are winning praise from our customers in the very competitive casual spikeless category.”
The Apex Tour represents a total re-think of the traditional high performance golf shoe. An ideal heel-to-toe height differential, or “drop,” in a wing-tip design is the key to balancing a classic aesthetic with cutting edge stability and traction technologies.
“We took our long-selling Tour Authentic shoe and, with input from Callaway Tour players, we’ve completely rebuilt it from the ground up to give them exactly what they have been looking for,” notes Pinger.
The Apex Tour is crafted from premium leather and features an outsole composed of multi-density materials for an ideal balance of dress shoe style, comfort and stability. The outsole features Xfer™ traction elements deployed strategically to work in concert with nine PINS System Softspikes® for ultimate Tour-level traction. Molded Ortholite insoles, enhanced heel cushioning and improved fit ensure maximum comfort.
Accompanying the Del Mar Series and the Apex Tour are updates to Callaway Footwear’s popular X Series Nitro, Chev Aero, and Chev Comfort products from 2014. The X Series Nitro, known for Tour-level performance, debuts in lightweight, high-recovery Clarino® microfiber leather. The Chev Aero II and Chev Comfort are updates in upper design and colors of two popular styles.
On the women’s side, Callaway Footwear is pleased to announce the launch of the Halo Pro Tour-level performance shoe and the Playa, women’s answer for the Del Mar Series for men.
“For the Halo Pro, we sought to develop a serious performance golf shoe for competitive amateur golfers and Tour players that has great style as well,” explains Pinger.
The Halo Pro features a reduced heel-to-toe drop to get the feet in a more ideal, stable position during the golf swing. An outsole made of lightweight EVA deploys an extremely durable rubber compound in just the right places to maximize stability and traction. The upper, made of lightweight, high-recovery Clarino® microfiber leather, is accented by a subtle but stylish leopard-print motif that makes the Halo Pro look as great as it performs.
Also new for the women is the Playa. Based on the same platform as our best-selling Solaire line, the Playa, meaning “beach” in Spanish, features an upper that echoes the California casual style of the Del Mar Series for men.
“We developed the Playa based on very specific feedback from women golfers,” comments Pinger. “They told us that they liked the Solaire’s combination of style and performance, but they also wished they could sport a look more along the lines of our Del Mar shoes for men. The Playa is our answer for those women.”
Updates in upper treatment and colors in our best-selling Solaire and Solaire SE models are also available alongside the Halo Pro and the Playa.
All models are available at retail October 31st. Manufacturer’s Suggest Retail Prices are as follows: Del Mar Zephyr $139.99; Del Mar Sport $119.99; X Series Nitro $129.99; Apex Tour $209.99; Chev Aero II $99.99; Chev Comfort $69.99; Halo Pro $119.99; Playa $109.99; Solaire $79.99; Solaire SE $79.99.
