Deadline Nearing For Winter Golf Getaway To Florida

November 5, 2014

Nov. 14 is the fast-approaching deadline for golfers-seasoned, struggling and/or aspiring-to sign up for the Winter Golf Getaway at PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, FL set for Feb. 15-19, 2015. Questions: Who won’t be sick of winter by then unless someone’s already hibernating in the Sunbelt? Who won’t be itching to get a proper grip on a driver instead of a snowblower? And finally, who doesn’t want to get a jump on next golf season with a tune-up and some relaxing and reinvigorating golf?

Sponsored by the Golf Association of Michigan (GAM), AAA Travel and Kendall Academy, the Winter Golf Getaway will feature both small group instruction and on-course playing sessions at one of the premier golf and learning centers in the Sunshine State. Hotel accommodations for four nights will be at the Hilton Garden Inn at PGA Village, conveniently located across from the golf facility.

An award-winning team of noted PGA teaching professionals from Ann Arbor’s Kendall Academy will lead, instruct and join in the golf rounds reserved for participants. Along with founder and two-time Michigan PGA Teacher of the Year Dave Kendall, instructors will include Michigan Golf Hall of Fame members Lynn Janson and Jack Seltzer as well as Frank McAuliffe, the 2010 Michigan PGA Golf Professional of the Year.

The program will consist of two-to-four hours of group and individualized instruction in the morning at the PGA Center for Learning & Performance, home of the PGA of America Hall of Fame. In the afternoons (and one morning), participants will play at least nine holes of golf with the instructors on either the acclaimed Dye (Pete) or Ryder (Tom Fazio) courses.

About the Winter Golf Getaway format, Kendall says it’s based on a popular and proven formula. “We’ve been doing these schools for a number of years and they’ve clicked with golfers of all abilities and interests,” says Kendall, a two-time Michigan Senior Open champion. “People particularly like the low-stress round of golf where they learn to make the transition from the range to the course. It’s all about game and swing improvement while having a good time.”
