Schuller, Francisco, Grier Win 2014 MAPGA Player Of The Year Awards

Stafford, VA – Three Middle Atlantic PGA Professionals were crowned as the 2014 Middle Atlantic PGA Players of the Year on October 7 at the MAPGA Players Cup at Fountain Head Country Club in Hagerstown, MD. In the Open Category, Rick Schuller, PGA of Swaders Sports Park in Chesterfield, Va., became the first player over the age of 50 to win the Player of the Year award and has now won the Open Player of the Year twice in the past five years. Schuller, who won the Open Category in 2009 and the Senior Category in 2013, played in nine Open events this year, including six top three finishes and two first place finishes. Along with the Open Category Player of the Year award, the Senior Category Player of the Year and the Women’s Player of the Year awards were announced. John Francisco, PGA of Piney Branch Golf and Country Club in Upperco, Md., won the 2014 Senior Player of the Year award, making it his second Player of the Year award in the last three years. Francisco led throughout much of the year after he had six first place finishes and eight top three finishes. In the Women’s Category, Ashley Grier, PGA of Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, Md., won her third consecutive Women’s Player of the Year award. Grier finished in the top three in five events this season and took home first place in the EP Pro Women’s Championship.
