Shoots course record 63 and 24.5 putts per round
WIXOM, Mich. – With the help of SuperStroke’s Flatso Ultra putter grip featuring the company’s patented parallel technology, Jordan Spieth carded a course record final round 63 at the 2014 Emirates Australian Open. He shot a 13-under 271 (67-72-69-63) to win by six strokes over a field that included the world’s number one and number three ranked players.
Spieth needed just 21 putts during the final round to help secure the course record 63. He finished the tournament with an average of 24.5 putts per round. He also recorded a total of 6.08 Putts Per Greens In Regulation for a tournament average of 1.52.
“It’s the best round I have ever played, especially considering the conditions,” Spieth said during the press conference following the tournament. “I didn’t think the round was there but the putts just kept going in. It was just kind of one of those rounds when you’re in the zone and you’re not sure what you’re at. It’s nice that it came on a Sunday.”
After finishing in a tie for third place at the Dunlop Phoenix tournament on the Japan Golf Tour the week before, Spieth said he felt really good about his ball striking and putting coming into the Australian Open.
