Volvik announces that three hole-in-ones were made with a Volvik DS-77 golf ball in the Volvik DS-77 Hole-in-One Challenge in a 10-day span from November 10-21, giving Volvik their first three aces of their national contest.
Hole-in-ones #1 and #3 were made at the same 36-hole facility, but on different courses at Sun N’ Lake Golf Club in Sebring, FL. The aces were made by Sun N’ Lake regulars Joe Bowditch and Pat Dell. Both golfers are in their 60’s and were using a Yellow DS-77 golf ball. The hole-in-ones happened 10 days apart.
“On the morning of November 11, 2014 the Tanglewood Golf Association (TGA) group was playing at Sun N’ Lake, Deer Run course,” said Bowditch. “I hit 5-iron into the wind and the ball landed on the green about 15 feet short of the hole and we watched as it rolled into the cup! I love the feel on my iron shots and I think I get more distance from the DS-77. I normally hit 5 iron on this hole, but I was wondering if it would be enough club into the wind that was blowing. It’s my 3rd hole-in-one and first with the Volvik ball.”
Sun N’ Lake Golf Club won 12 free dozen DS-77, 6 dozen for each hole-in-one since they are an active Volvik account promoting the DS-77 Hole-in-One Challenge and the hole-in-ones occurred on their courses.
“It was 169 yards on hole 2 of the Turtle Run course at Sun N’ Lake, 150 yards carry just to get over the water,” said Dell. “There was a 20 mph wind so I grabbed my 3-iron. My Yellow DS-77 bounced went directly for the pin. It is my second hole-in-one with a Yellow Volvik golf ball, the first being with a Yellow Crystal golf ball.”
Hole-in-One #2 was made by Nghi Le at the Fallen Oaks course at Beau Ridge Resort in Saucier, Mississippi on November 16. Le hit his Orange DS-77 162 yards into the hole using a 7-iron.
“I got two boxes, one for me and my friend,” said Le. “It was the last golfing trip of the season and I told him about this contest not thinking I would actually ace, BUT IT HAPPENED! And it happened on the first par-3! I’m going be playing this ball for a long time!!”
All three hole-in-ones have been confirmed through the rules of the contest as all golfers had pre-registered at www.volvik.com/hole-in-one and each filled out the proper paper work naming their witness and providing proof that they played golf that day. Each hole was beyond the 95-yard requirement and occurred in regular stroke play. The Sun N’ Lake aces were awarded their $500 checks December 4.
The Volvik DS-77 Hole-in-One Challenge began September 15, 2014 and goes until June 30, 2015. To read the full rules of the contest, please visit www.volvik.com/hole-in-one.
“To our knowledge this is the first time a manufacturer has rolled out a contest that rewards the golfer for making a hole-in-one with their equipment,” said Jon Claffey, National Director of Sales and Marketing for Volvik USA. “The idea came to us after we saw the how many hole-in-one reports we were seeing with Volvik golf balls. We were getting two or three reports of hole-in-ones being made with Volvik golf balls almost every week. We realized we have the perfect hole-in-one ball with the DS-77 and we wanted to reward all the golfers making a hole-in-one with our product.”
The DS-77 is Volvik’s new extreme distance ball that is designed to perform with more spin on the ball around the greens. The DS in the name stands for Dual Spin as the ball is made to be long off the tee with reduced sidespin with more spin on the greens, making it the perfect hole-in-one ball. It is available in Yellow, Orange and White and retails for $22.99 a dozen. There is no purchase necessary of the DS-77, but it must be the ball in play for the hole-in-one. The contest is not valid in Rhode Island or New York.
“Golfers get multiple chances to win as every time they play they will have four shots at it so the odds are much greater than the usual one-shot hole-in-one events,” said Claffey. “This is a really great performing golf ball that has tested with 10% more greenside spin compared to the other leading soft compression balls on the market. People will have a lot of fun with this ball.”
