Mobile technology promotes junior golf instruction with fun, easy-to-use platform
(ORLANDO, Fla.) – Annika Sorenstam – World Golf Hall of Famer and founder of the ANNIKA Foundation – has joined the Board of Directors of Wee Golf, a digital platform dedicated to giving parents, guardians and golf facilities an easy and effective program to introduce children to the game.
Created by a team of golf experts and enthusiasts, Wee Golf is an engaging and experiential system that introduces golf-swing fundamentals and the sport’s core values to kids ages 3-8. Its Apple-compatible mobile technology “gamifies” lessons, with participants earning badges, points and rewards as they advance through the program. This approach is similar to the one used by the Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of the USA.
Wee Golf will be unveiled at the 2015 PGA Merchandise Show and exhibit at Booth #978.
“Our goal is to spread the gift of golf through parents who have a passion for the game and want to share it with their kids but, until now, didn’t have a convenient way to do it,” says Jason Black, Wee Golf CEO. “Wee Golf provides a roadmap for the parents, fun for the kids, and, we hope, a lifetime of enjoyment.”
Juniors wishing to take their on-screen training to the next level can do so by joining a Wee Golf team at participating local facilities. These teams are coached by PGA professionals and designed to further encourage a life-long affinity for golf.
“As a parent with two young children, one of my greatest pleasures in golf has been enjoying and experiencing the game with them,” says Annika, whose ANNIKA Foundation is committed to offering junior golfers opportunities to pursue their dreams. “For the industry to grow, we need to embrace new companies like Wee Golf that will revolutionize how the sport is introduced to children.”

About Wee Golf
Headquartered in Austin, Texas, Wee Golf (www.weegolf.com) is a golf platform that leverages technology to “gamify” the learning experience for kids (ages 3-8). Its mission is to get kids and parents / guardians engaged in golf at an early age. Using mobile technology, participants navigate through different levels learning golf fundamentals and core values. As children complete their “Adventures” and engage with a Wee Golf Team, they will effectively learn the three fundamental skills of golf – putting, chipping and swinging – in a fun and rewarding manner.
About the ANNIKA Foundation
Annika created the ANNIKA Foundation (www.annikafoundation.org) as a way to teach children the importance of living a healthy, active lifestyle through fitness and nutrition, and offer aspiring junior golfers opportunities to pursue their dreams. The Foundation has partnered with key organizations to promote healthy, active lifestyles for children, including SPARK, Florida Hospital for Children in support of its Healthy 100 Kids initiative and The First Tee in development of the Nine Healthy Habits curriculum for children.
The Foundation annually conducts four major golf events for aspiring junior girls: the AJGA ANNIKA Invitational at Reunion Resort in Orlando, Fla.; ANNIKA Invitational at Mission Hills in China; ANNIKA Invitational Europe in Sweden; and ANNIKA Cup, a team event for Swedish juniors. In 2013, its reach extended to the collegiate ranks with the ANNIKA Award Presented by 3M (awarded to most outstanding female NCAA Division I golfer) and ANNIKA Intercollegiate Presented by 3M (12-team, 54-hole event at Reunion Resort). SPARK grants to schools, financial support of Healthy 100 Kids, endowment of an AJGA ACE scholarship, ANNIKA Junior Day, ANNIKA Inspiration Award and scholarships for aspiring Swedish juniors are other key initiatives.
