Streamsong Resort Unveils Plans For Highly Anticipated Third Golf Course

World-renowned architect Gil Hanse to design Streamsong Black

STREAMSONG, FLORIDA (Jan. 20, 2015) – Streamsong Resort, home to two critically- acclaimed golf courses, has announced plans to build a third course, which will open in autumn 2017 on its 16,000 acre property in central Florida. The third course – Streamsong Black – will be designed by Gil Hanse, architect of The Olympic Golf Course in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and co-designer of Castle Stuart Golf Links in Scotland, among others, and will enhance the world-class golf experience that Streamsong has become known for since opening in 2013. Construction is scheduled to commence this summer.

“Gil is a tremendously talented architect who approaches each project with a fresh, thoughtful perspective and a keen eye for the natural landscape. He is one of the best architects in the industry, highly gifted with sand-based sites, and has an exciting vision for Streamsong Black,” said Rich Mack, Streamsong’s sponsor and executive vice president of The Mosaic Company, which owns Streamsong. “The Streamsong Black site is a wonderful piece of property, unique unto itself, and highly conducive to compelling golf. It will be an excellent complement to Streamsong Red and Streamsong Blue.”

Streamsong Black will be built directly southeast of the two existing courses, Streamsong Red and Streamsong Blue – designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw and Renaissance Golf Design (Tom Doak), respectively. With the addition of Streamsong Black, the resort will become the only location in the world where guests can enjoy three distinct courses designed by these four legendary architects.

In contrast to Streamsong Red and Streamsong Blue, which were intentionally intermingled, Streamsong Black will stand alone and give golfers a sense of peaceful isolation. Shaped by the property’s former phosphate mining operations decades ago, nature has overtaken the property and Streamsong Black will feature abundant sand – the common denominator for the world’s greatest golf courses – rolling elevation changes, native grasses and stunning views of ridges and the surrounding landscape on a grand scale.

“We’re honored to be a part of such an amazing venue and to be able to develop a layout alongside Streamsong Red and Streamsong Blue, which were designed by the three architects I admire the most,” said architect Gil Hanse. “Streamsong is about an authentic golf experience, and the natural environment and landscape at Streamsong is simply like nothing we’ve experienced. It’s one of the very best. To work with such a great piece of land and to showcase Streamsong Black alongside Bill, Ben and Tom’s designs is a dream come true for a golf course architect. We view this as a huge opportunity for our team, and one that we’re very excited about. I can’t wait to get started.”

The resort plans to add a second practice facility, clubhouse and restaurant to serve guests playing Streamsong Black.

Streamsong also indicated that it is assessing various alternatives for a fourth course, the details of which will be provided at a later date.

In addition to world-class golf, Streamsong features a 216-room Lodge, with three acclaimed casual and fine dining restaurants, conference and event facilities, a spa and infinity pool. Streamsong’s Clubhouse includes 12 guest rooms, a restaurant and bar, an award- winning golf shop and meeting space with breathtaking views. In addition to golf, guests can enjoy such activities as bass fishing, sporting clays, nature trails and tennis.
