Despite the occasional drop of rain, much merriment occurred over the two days of the VIIth Annual Kingdom Cup golf tournament, presented with Arnold Palmer on January 11th and 12th at Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando.
The tournament, presented annually by Kingdom magazine and hosted each year by Arnold Palmer, is a way of Kingdom spending time with, having fun with and saying “thank you” to its loyal clients and supporters. The event is by invitation only, and it helps to raise funds for the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. To date, Kingdom magazine has raised in excess of $700,000.
This year, luminaries from the worlds of business and golf-including Mr. Palmer and his family, Annika Sorenstam, and the Golf Channel’s Kelly Tilghman, among others-celebrated Kingdom magazine and supported the hospital with two days of golf, cocktail parties, Aston martin test drives, a gala dinner and awards ceremony.
“Coming together with all of our friends and supporting the good work done by the staff at the hospital is a great testament to the inspiration behind it all: Mr. Palmer himself,” said Matthew Squire, Kingdom’s publisher.
“To have a magazine that has been so well devoted to pinpointing the things that we are interested in as businessmen and gentlemen, Kingdom and Matthew have done one hell of a job,” Palmer said. “I’m very proud that we have 30 issues right now, and hopefully we’ll have about 1,000 down the road in a few years.
“I don’t know every single person in this room by name, but I would like to, and I feel like I do, even if I can’t show it all the time. Everybody here is wonderful, they are a part of my life whether they know it or not, because they have contributed to the things that I love so much-No.1 the game of golf, let’s just start there.
“The greatest thing in the world for me tonight is to look around this room and to see everyone here smiling. I can’t think of anything that is nicer than seeing you guys smiling and enjoying yourselves.”
