CHICAGO, IL (JANUARY 29, 2015) – The Arm-Lock Converter Putter Grip has been selected by Golf Digest editors as one of the top 12 products at last week’s PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando.
Stockbroker Ed Klein and PGA Professional Ronnie Espedal created the Arm-Lock grip as an alternative for those using an anchored putting stroke, which will be banned starting in 2016.
Among the many tour professionals who use the anchored style are champions Ernie Els, Adam Scott, Webb Simpson and Keegan Bradley. Some say the long putters saved their careers.
The converter grip, which retails for $34.95 and is USGA conforming, replaces a regular grip on any putter, with the bore in the grip angled so that the shaft can aligned with your forearm. The design increases the effective loft of a putter by 2 degrees, alleviating the need for a forward press.
“We are thrilled that the editors at Golf Digest recognized the game-changing aspects of our Arm-Lock Converter Putter Grip,” said Klein, who lives in Aberdeen, WA. “I believe anchored putters have kept many golfers interested in the game. If it wasn’t for the longer broomstick-style or belly putters, many golfers would have quit the sport years ago.”
Klein and Espedal, who regularly uses a belly putter, were speaking one day about the new ruling by the USGA and R&A. The two began experimenting on the putting green and decided to put together a prototype for a new grip and thus was the start of a new company, Arm-Lock Golf.
“Our first model was good but not perfect. I woke up one morning and realized what needed to be changed. Instead of the shaft going right through the middle of the grip, we decided to use an angled grip,” said Klein. “Essentially, the Arm-Lock Golf Converter Putter Grip is a grip that will convert any putter into an Arm-Lock putter.”
The company is busy following up with the dozens of leads from interested PGA Show attendees.
“We are currently proceeding with contacts on PGA, Champions, European and Web.com tours,” said Klein. “Our other focuses are regional distributers for the grips and marketing to golf professionals. We also are concentrating on connecting with putter companies to expand their product lines with our grips.”
The company also has a counterbalanced grip for those who prefer to use a traditional stroke. Big Red should be available by late March.
