NORTHBROOK, Ill., Feb. 5, 2015 – KemperSports announced today that long-time staffer Jeff Berg has been recognized by the Virginia Golf Course Superintendents Association (VGCSA) with their annual Environmental Stewardship Award. Berg currently serves as General Manager and Regional Agronomist at Goose Creek Golf Club in Leesburg, Virginia.
The Environmental Stewardship Award is presented annually in “recognition of distinguished and meritorious service in the environmental stewardship of Virginia golf courses, and in grateful appreciation for unselfishly promoting the profession of golf course management, which led to the advancement of the association.”
“Jeff Berg has remained a strong voice and advocate for environmental best practices across our portfolio,” said KemperSports CEO Steve Skinner. “We are proud of what Jeff has accomplished at Goose Creek Golf Club and the contributions that he has made to the VGCSA.”
A 14-year veteran of KemperSports, Berg has displayed leadership among agronomists in the KemperSports portfolio, including delivering best practices and support of KemperSports Green To A Tee™ program which encompasses environmentally focused initiatives within several core areas of facility operations, including golf course maintenance, habitat management, water conservation, energy usage, recycling, “green” vendor utilization and staff education and training.
“Jeff Berg spent countless hours building relationships amongst different constituencies to pull together the most important document our organization has ever published,” said VGCSA Executive Director David Norman. “The Best Management Practices manual is the single most important tool we have to showcase the environmental stewardship practices of Virginia’s golf industry, and Jeff was at the helm to make it happen.”
