Royal Dornoch Golf Club will bring additional international flavor to the field
Scottsdale, AZ- The Scottish Highland’s Royal Dornoch Golf Club is the latest International team slated to compete in the 2nd annual Legacy of the Links Top 100 Invitational golf tournament set for the popular Pinehurst Resort (Courses #2 and #4) on May 3-6, 2015.
According to Royal Dornoch’s General Manager Neil Hampton, their course is ranked #14 in the World’s Top 100 Courses by Golf Magazine. Hampton looks forward to having two teams from his club competing in the prestigious Top-100 tournament? an event that stimulates camaraderie and competitive spirit unlike any other global golf gathering.
“We are extremely excited about having our friends from Royal Dornoch competing in the Top 100 Invitational,” said Legacy of the Links Co-founder Kevin McGrath. “It is also fitting to have Royal Dornoch represented, as the charming town of Dornoch is the birthplace of renowned golf course architect Donald Ross, who will be posthumously inducted into the Top 100 Hall of Fame during our event at Pinehurst.”
The Top 100 Invitational is played as a two-person better-ball format based on the standard Stableford scoring with a maximum handicap limit of 18 for both men and women competing in three separate divisions, Men’s, Ladies and Mixed. Any PGA/LPGA Professionals competing in the event will play to a zero handicap. A perpetual trophy will be awarded to the winning team in each division.
In addition to the camaraderie and golf, the Top 100 Invitational will raise funds for
the University of St. Andrews at the Home of Golf in Scotland. Donations will be earmarked for a special fund to construct a world-class museum, designated as the Centre for Golf Collections.
According to tournament organizers, registration is still open to any club that has ever earned a “top-100” designation. MORE ABOUT ROYAL DORNOCH GOLF CLUB
Dornoch Golf Club was first founded in 1877 and became a “Royal” in 1906 courtesy of King Edward VII. It has always operated as a private members club, but from the very beginning, the members and the people of Dornoch recognized the joy the course gave to others. They have been welcoming golfers since the first ball was struck. However, long before Dornoch GC was ever founded, golf was being played on the links land close to the sea shore from the early 17th century and Dornoch is slated to celebrate 400 years of golf in the town in 2016.
