Feherty’s Troops First Foundation – official charity of the Golf Channel Am Tour – has received more than $275,000 in donations from tour members since 2011
ORLANDO, Fla. (Feb. 12, 2015) – The Golf Channel Amateur Tour is elevating its commitment to supporting Feherty’s Troops First Foundation – the official charitable organization of the Tour – by creating a new “50/50 Hole-in-One” program for its participants during all two-day “Major” Championships on the Tour’s 2015 schedule. Any hole-in-one made at the Tour’s “Major” Championships this season will result in a Golf Channel Am Tour sponsored $1000 award, which will include a $500 donation going to Feherty’s Troops First Foundation, along with a $500 cash prize presented to the golfer scoring the hole-in-one. The program was developed in collaboration with Great Shot Golf, an industry leader in hole-in-one contests and prizing.
“The continuous support of the Golf Channel Am Tour has been instrumental in assisting the Foundation with not only maintaining established initiatives, but expanding them as well,” said Rick Kell, co-founder of Feherty’s Troops First Foundation. “One of the Foundation’s guiding principles is, ‘Never make a promise to a Warrior that you cannot keep.’ Over the past several years, the Am Tour participants and sponsors have enabled us to keep many promises to Warriors and their families.”
Established in 2008 by David Feherty – Emmy-nominated host of the self-titled Golf Channel original series Feherty – and Kell, Feherty’s Troops First Foundation works to provide meaningful assistance to military personnel that have been wounded while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. The non-profit organization develops, operates and supports a synergistic group of wellness, quality of life, and sports-based initiatives in support of today’s military personnel. The foundation has identified the need to create several relevant and unduplicated programs along with specialized events designed for combat-wounded service members and their families that address relationship building, mentoring, reintegration, and looking forward.
During the Golf Channel Am Tour’s 2014 National Championships in September, members presented Feherty’s Troops First Foundation with a $102,958 donation. Since 2011, Am Tour members have contributed more than $275,000 to the foundation.
The next Major on the Golf Channel Am Tour schedule is the Myrtle Beach Classic, Feb. 28-March1 in Pawleys Island, S.C. For a full list of 2015 Am Tour Majors, visit here.
