Volvik, the #1 Color Golf Ball on Tour, today announced the signing of Hall of Fame golfer Se Ri Pak to a two-year endorsement deal. The sponsorship was announced on Monday in Pattaya, Thailand, the site of 2015 Honda LPGA Thailand event. Seven professionals played Volvik golf balls this week in Thailand, including the newly signed Pak, ranking Volvik as the #2 most played golf ball manufacturer for the third time out of four events this season on the LPGA Tour.
Pak is playing Volvik S3 golf balls and features a Volvik logo on her staff bag.
“I have been testing new golf balls for a while and I finally found the ball that I really love,” said Pak. “This is a one of the best performing golf balls I have found for my game and I hope it helps lift me to one more major win for my career grand slam.”
Pak has won 25 events on the LPGA Tour, including five major championships. In June 2007, at age 29, she was announced into the World Golf Hall of Fame, surpassing Karrie Webb as the youngest living nominee ever.
Pak’s victory at the 1998 U.S. Women’s Open encouraged many Korean women to take up the game of golf. She is celebrated in her home country for introducing golf to the masses, as well as inspiring a new generation of LPGA players to follow in her footsteps, including Volvik LPGA Tour staff players Chella Choi and Ilhee Lee.
“Se Ri Pak joining the Volvik professional staff is a momentous announcement for Volvik,” said Volvik USA President Don Shin. “Se Ri is one of the greatest golfers of all-time and a pioneer of golf to Korea. It is an honor and a very proud moment for Volvik to add such a great icon of the game to our staff. She will raise the level of awareness to Volvik around the globe.”
In 2008, a column by Golf World writer Eric Adelson called Pak “a pioneer who changed the face of golf even more than Tiger Woods.” When Pak started playing on the LPGA in 1998, she was the only Korean player with full status. Ten years later, she was one of 45 Koreans playing on the tour.
Pak joins a team of Volvik players on the LPGA Tour that includes the #10 ranking player from the 2014 money list, Chella Choi, #20 ranked Pornanong Phatlum, #23 ranked Mi Hyang Lee, #26 ranked Meena Lee, #37 ranked Ilhee Lee, #63 ranked Thidapa Suwannapura and rising American stars Victoria Elizabeth, Sadena Parks and Casey Grice for the 2015 season.
Volvik also announced the signing of rising LPGA Tour star Ju Young Park this week. Park is the younger sister of LPGA star Hee Young Park, making them one of only two sister duos currently on the LPGA Tour. Park finished T11th at 2014 LPGA qualifying school, earning full status for the 2015 LPGA season.
Park previously played on the KLPGA Tour for four years and ranked #3 in driving distance on that tour in 2014. Park has played in two of the Hana Bank Championships, the LPGA event that takes place every year in Korea. In 2013, she shot a first round 67 and found herself in or near the lead much of the first two days and finished the event T12.
“Volvik ranks as the #2 most played golf ball overall on the 2015 LPGA Tour after the first four events,” said Shin. “Signing Se Ri and Ju Young raises Team Volvik to a new level of name recognition, talent and overall potential. We now have 10 of the top players in the world playing Volvik golf balls on the LPGA Tour. Last year, Volvik was #2 in total prize winnings on the LPGA and we were the first in LPGA Tour history to win with an Orange golf ball. This year, we have raised our game to make sure we stayed on the same growth pattern we are experiencing as the fastest rising golf ball manufacturer in the world.”
Volvik ranked as the #2 ranking manufacturer in prize money earned on the 2014 LPGA Tour, with professionals using their ultra-high performance balls earning $3.7 million, according to the Darrell Survey. All of their golf balls played on the 2014 LPGA Tour were color golf balls.
With 223 Volvik golf balls in play last season, the amount of money earned on the 2014 LPGA Tour averaged $16,989 per golf ball in play. That is the highest average of prize money earned per ball in play than any of the Top 5 most played golf ball manufacturers on the 2014 LPGA Tour. Volvik bested the next closest manufacturer in the Top 5 of golf ball usage on the 2014 LPGA Tour by over $4,300 per ball.
