(QUINCY, IL) – The Pepsi Little People’s Golf Championships is happy to announce that the tournament is increasing the age opportunity for the 2015 tournament to players 18 years old. Division 7 for boys and Division 7 for girls will now include players aged 16, 17 and 18. During the tournament’s prior 42 years, the age limit has been capped at players 17 and younger. This change makes the tournament more consistent with other national events, and provides one more showcase for players to be seen by college coaches.
Said Founder and Tournament Director, Nan Ryan, “We are delighted to make this change to give those 18-year-olds who are not yet signed to play college golf one more opportunity to gain visibility among college coaches, improve their rankings and be able to add to their playing resumes.” She continued, “This was a direct result of parents of now-18-year-olds asking if we would do this to give their players another tournament to play before entering college. Many 18 year olds still have one more year of high school, and since we do get quite a large number of coaches recruiting here, especially coaches from the Midwest, it makes perfect sense.”
One of the longest running junior tournaments in the world, Pepsi Little People’s will be celebrating its 42nd anniversary this year. The event is truly an international tournament with players over the years having come from more than 40 countries. The tournament will be played in Quincy, IL, June 22-24 on two golf courses, Westview Golf Course for the older divisions and the Knights of Columbus Par 3 for the younger players. June 22 is reserved for practice rounds, while the competitive rounds will be played June 23-24. Boys and Girls 12-18 will play 18 regulation holes daily at Westview, from a distance of 6512 yards for boys and 5977 yards for girls.
As has always been the tradition, the Pepsi Little People’s Golf Championship is preceded by the optional nine-hole Parent-Child event on Sunday, June 21 (Father’s Day). The two optional International Team events will be played on Thursday, June 25. For further information on the tournament, and entry forms for all events, please go to www.littlepeoplesgolf.com.
