Volvik announces three more hole-in-ones were made in the past two weeks with their DS-77 golf ball in the Volvik DS-77 Hole-in-One Challenge.
DS-77 Challenge Hole-in-One #9 went to Gigi Roberts of Orlando, Fla. when she holed out her Orange DS-77 with a 4-hybrid from 141 yards at Rio Pinar Country Club, an Integrity Golf Company managed golf course.
“I had not played for a month in a half,” said Roberts. “On the 1st par 3 of the round, I picked up the ball and said to my husband that this is my hole-in-one ball. I teed it up into a lot of face wind and it went over the bunker and right into the cup. My friends husband saw it go in we drove up and the celebration began. I really enjoy the softness of the DS-77.”
Roberts, who is an 18 handicap player in her 60’s, is the second woman to win the $500 Challenge. It is her third career hole-in-one.
The 10th hole-in-one of the national contest happened March 1 when Felipe Garcia holed out with a gap wedge from 95 yards on hole #4 of Arcadia Par 3 Golf Course in Arcadia, Calif.
“All I have to say is this experience was amazing, no better rush than making a hole in one!” said Garcia. “We were playing in a five-some and was already having a great round of golf, but the hole-in-one was just the ultimate icing on the cake. I used to use mainly Bridgestone or Titleist, but I think I’ll stick with Volvik from here on out!”
On March 5, U.S. Military Afghanistan war veteran and combat wounded warrior Robert McIntyre made the 11th hole-in-one of the DS-77 Challenge at The Ridge at Kings Ridge Golf Course in Clermont, Fla. McIntyre aced his White DS-77 logoed with a Fairways for Warriors logo from an event Volvik sponsored at Eagle Creek Golf Club. McIntyre hit the shot with a 7-iron from 122 yards on hole #7 at The Ridge, another Integrity Golf Company managed property.
“I was playing with the guys I call one arm Jack, one leg Steve and Tony, all war veterans,” said McIntyre. “I was injured in Afghanistan serving our country and I got the DS-77 ball at a Fairways for Warriors event Volvik was sponsoring at Eagle Creek. This was my first hole-in-one, I never thought I’d make one! I hit it, it kicked right and rolled right into the hole, a perfect shot. I jumped and down and screamed and then I called Volvik on the phone directly from the golf course, as I said to myself, wait a minute that’s the hole-in-one ball! I’m a really hard swinger and this ball has been great for me.”
All 11 hole-in-ones have been confirmed through the rules of the contest as all golfers had pre-registered at www.volvik.com/hole-in-one and each filled out the proper paper work naming their witness and providing proof that they played golf that day. Each hole was beyond the 95-yard requirement and occurred in regular stroke play. The Volvik DS-77 Hole-in-One Challenge began September 15, 2014 and goes until June 30, 2015. “To our knowledge this is the first time a manufacturer has rolled out a contest that rewards the golfer for making a hole-in-one with their equipment,” said Jon Claffey, National Director of Sales and Marketing for Volvik USA. “The idea came to us after we saw the how many hole-in-one reports we were seeing with Volvik golf balls. We were getting two or three reports of hole-in-ones being made with Volvik golf balls almost every week. We realized we have the perfect hole-in-one ball with the DS-77 and we wanted to reward all the golfers making a hole-in-one with our product.”
The DS-77 is Volvik’s new extreme distance ball that is designed to perform with more spin on the ball around the greens. The DS in the name stands for Dual Spin as the ball is made to be long off the tee with reduced sidespin with more spin on the greens, making it the perfect hole-in-one ball. It is available in Yellow, Orange and White and retails for $22.99 a dozen. There is no purchase necessary of the DS-77, but it must be the ball in play for the hole-in-one. The contest is not valid in Rhode Island or New York.
“Golfers get multiple chances to win as every time they play they will have four shots at it so the odds are much greater than the usual one-shot hole-in-one events,” said Claffey. “This is a really great performing golf ball that has tested with 10% more greenside spin compared to the other leading soft compression balls on the market. People will have a lot of fun with this ball.”
