WIXOM, Mich. – With the help of SuperStroke’s Flatso 1.0 putter grip, Jordan Spieth drained a 28-foot putt on No. 17, the third hole of a sudden-death playoff, to capture the Valspar Championship at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Fla.
After the win, Spieth credited his short game, especially his putting for the difference in his game this season.
“Capitalizing on those four or five footers (putts) is what I am getting better and better at,” he said. “Grinding over those four or five footers and knocking them in the back (of the hole) … those putting stats have improved significantly. And that’s why my short game is better.”
In addition to the Valspar victory, Spieth won The Hero World Challenge tournament in December and has three other top 10 finishes so far this season. The Valspar victory moves him to a career-best No. 6 in the Official World Golf Rankings and No. 7 in the FedEx Cup standings.
“We want to congratulate Jordan on another incredible win,” said Dean Dingman, President SuperStroke Golf. “To be just the fourth player since 1940 to win twice on tour before his 22nd birthday is truly amazing. Each week he continues to be one of the most consistent putters on the tours and we’re honored to have him as a global ambassador for SuperStroke.”
With the help of the Flatso 1.0, Spieth jumped from third to first in Putts per Round for the season with a 27.46 average through 26 rounds. He also ranks second in Putting Average with a 1.687 and 8th in Overall Putting Average with a 1.526 average.
Jason Dufner and six other players using SuperStroke grips placed in the top 25 at the Valspar Championship including two who tied for 10th place. Dufner, playing SuperStroke’s Slim 3.0 grip, finished in a tie for 24th and ranked seventh in Putts per GIR with a 5.995 total.
At the Tshwane Open in South Africa, the second place finisher played SuperStroke’s Flatso 1.0 putter grip. He finished the tournament ranked seventh in Putts per Round with a 27.5 average and eighth in Putts per GIR with a 1.664 average.
