Golf Channel’s fourth installment of Arnie premiers this week
ORLANDO, Fla. – As a beginning golfer growing up in Rochester, N.Y., Holly Geoghegan’s dream as a little girl was to meet Arnold Palmer and get his autograph at the 1968 U.S. Open being played at Oak Hill Country Club. She got the King’s autograph in a most unusual way, and the meeting so inspired her that she eventually pursued her passion and built a career in the golf industry.
Last year when Golf Channel aired Arnie, a three-part television event on the life of Arnold Palmer, the response was so overwhelming that they decided to produce a fourth installment called Arnie & Me – heartfelt and funny stories about the King as told by his legion of fans.
Holly “G”, as she is known in the industry, submitted her story — one of more than a thousand, and it made the cut. Arnie & Me premiered on Golf Channel, March 17th at 10 p.m. and will rebroadcast March 18th at 4 p.m. and 10 p.m.; and March 20th at noon. (Air times are EDT).
“It’s an incredible honor to be part of golf history and this amazing documentary,” Geoghegan says. “Arnie had quite an impact on my life as a child and ultimately, my pursuing a career in golf,” she adds. Geoghegan’s story also appears in the current issue of Southern Golf Central magazine.
Geoghegan left Rochester in 1990 to become Director of Communications for the LPGA Tour and then founded Golf Marketing Services, Inc., based in Orlando, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. GMS has worked with some of the biggest names in golf including TaylorMade, Callaway, Aldila and SuperStroke. Holly “G” is also host and producer of the award-winning golf talk radio show, The Golf Insiders, which airs Wednesdays at 6 p.m. on 740 The Game in Orlando and nationally on iHeart Radio.
