Packages offer championship conditions on classic desert venue
Tucson, Ariz. (March 17, 2015) – Celebrating the return of the professional golf tour to its iconic venue, Omni Tucson National Resort is unveiling two golf packages that give every golfer a chance to follow in the footsteps of champions.
By choosing either the Unlimited Golf Package or Stay & Play Golf Package, golfers can experience the history and tradition of Omni Tucson National Resort, which hosted PGA Tour sanctioned events more than 30 times between 1965 and 2006 – and is back on the schedule for the inaugural Tucson Conquistadores Classic, a Champions Tour event, March 20-22 on the Catalina Course. Numerous players who won at Omni Tucson National during their PGA Tour careers are now competing on the Champions Tour, including Kirk Triplett, Jeff Sluman, David Frost, Tom Watson, and Craig Stadler.
Part of the unique collection of Omni golf courses throughout the country, Omni Tucson National boasts two golf courses – the Catalina Course, a renowned Robert von Hagge-Bruce Devlin parkland design built in 1963, and the Sonoran Course, which Tom Lehman designed in 2006.
The Catalina Course – the longtime home of the tour pros – is known for its magnificent views and traditional parkland-style layout with gentle contours, tree-lined fairways and eight sparkling lakes. The Sonoran Course is a pure desert-style layout, with steep elevation changes that create uphill and downhill shot opportunities not typically found in Tucson. The Sonoran also offers spectacular vistas of natural beauty of the surrounding terrain.
The Unlimited Golf Package is ideal for golfers who want to play Omni Tucson National from sunup to sundown and includes a 20 percent food and beverage discount at the resort’s Fiesta Cafe, Legends Bar & Grill and Sweetwater Cabana (excludes alcohol). Unlimited Golf Package rates start at $185 per room per night based on double occupancy.
The Stay & Play Golf Package is more relaxed, with only one round per day included. In both golf packages, guests will enjoy deluxe accommodations at the luxuriously remodeled destination, which has been named one of the “75 Best Golf Resorts in North America” by Golf Digest. Also as part of the Stay & Play Package, children up to age 12 play free with paying adult (through Sept. 14, 2015). Rates for the Stay & Play Golf Package start at $155 per room per night based on double occupancy.
Located in some of the country’s most beautiful destinations, Omni Hotels & Resorts golf courses are designed by award-winning golf architects, some of who are legendary champions of the game. Each golf resort is complete with luxurious accommodations and superior service, on and off the course.
Omni golf destinations offer challenges for golfers at all levels of play, so pros, amateurs and their families alike can find courses to enjoy, creating distinct golf vacations in prime locations on legendary fairways and greens.
Beyond Omni Tucson National’s pedigree, the Omni collection of golf courses has a history and tradition of hosting the PGA Tour events, as well as national and international championship competition:
• The historic Donald Ross course at Omni Grove Park Inn was a tour stop from 1933 through 1951 (and is where the PGA of America was born)
• Omni La Costa Resort & Spa’s history with both the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour dates back to 1965
• Barton Creek hosted the Champions Tour Legends of Golf from 1990-1994
• The Champions Tour Father-Son Challenge was played at Omni ChampionsGate from 2003-2008
• The Omni Homestead Resort has hosted U.S Women’s Open, U.S. Amateur and U.S. Women’s Amateur, Curtis Cup and NCAA men’s championships, as well as PGA Champions Tour events.
• The Bedford Springs Open, a precursor to modern tour events, was held at Omni Bedford Springs Resort in the 1930s
