LPGA Tour players playing Volvik color golf balls earned three Top 3 finishes and over $250,000 in prize money this weekend at the JTBC Founders Cup held in Phoenix.
Ilhee Lee (Yellow Vista iS) , Pornanong Phatlum (Pink S3) and Mi Hyang Lee (Orange S3) all finished in the Top 3 Sunday at 16 under par, providing extreme visibility for the Volvik brand on the Golf Channel telecast.
Four Volvik staff players currently rank in the Top 25 on the official LPGA Tour money list, including Ilhee Lee (9th), Phatlum (19th), Mi Hyang Lee (22nd) and Chella Choi (25th). Volvik players have now earned five Top 5 finishes in six LPGA Tour events held in 2015.
Phatlum had eight birdies in Sunday’s round with her signature Pink ball and Mi Hyang Lee played Orange to one of the most consistent scorecards of the week, posting a 70-66-68-68 four day total.
Ilhee Lee shot one of the low rounds Sunday with a bogey free 66 and a birdie-eagle-birdie-par-par finish gave her the clubhouse lead when she finished the round.
“Well, today on the front nine, I thought this weekend is not my weekend,” said Lee. “Every putt goes so close but didn’t go in. But my caddie, he told me, be patient because it’s going to go in. Then I had seven holes left, and made birdie, five feet from the par 3, and made it, and then I start to feel like I can make more. But then I made eagle putt, that was like 20 feet away. And like this far, birdie, right next hole. I mean, finished strong. I’m happy. I’m happy for I finished strong.”
Lee’s strong finish this week will help her give back to people in need.
“I told my friend, if I make money, like plenty money this week, I will help for the Africa to help build pipe things for the water,” said Lee. “So I keep thinking about that, I want to make more birdie for them. I think that ends up really good.”
Nine professionals were playing different colored Volvik golf balls in the Founders Cup field, six of whom made the cut, including newly signed Volvik staff player Se Ri Pak. Pak ranks 7th on the LPGA all-time career money list.
The LPGA Tour moves to Carlsbad, Calif. this week for the KIA Classic at Aviara Golf Club.
